Ireland is not UK...
Just a word to ask if you can, please, write IRELAND on this little green island nearby the big UK.
Thanks a lot.
Lulu
Hi Lulu,
thanks for the message. Are you talking about the user map maybe?
I do not really know if it is the users map...
I think so. Sorry I wasn't clear enough
Lulu
It's not my fault!
I know that's an easy response.
Actually our user map is based on google maps ... not my fault if google mixes everything sorry. But actually, if you're using the zoom in function "Ireland" appears
Hi,

All the best,

Hi lulu,
Not to be nitpicky, but correct me if I'm wrong... aren't there TWO Irelands??? Did Northern Ireland cease to exist, or do you folks in the Republic of Ireland simply ignore it???? Last I heard Northern Ireland was and still is part of the UK.
Your complaint reminds me of the militant young Quebecers who during the 60s wanted to separate from Canada. They insisted that they lived in Quebec not in Canada, they soon changed horses in midstream when the Canadian government said they could leave whenever they wanted to, but would have to take on their own share of the national debt and have their own currency. Funny coming from a country that needed to be bailed out to the tune of 85 billion Euros by the EU and IMF, a country that has a total population smaller than many cities here in Brazil. It would appear not EVERYTHING is green on your tiny little island after all.
Cheers,

The Ireland thing was all down to an English king who was as fat as he was corrupt.
That caused a rift with the pope dude and started a chain of events that saw Lizzie go mad and murder as many Catholics as she could burn.
I can see the Irish point of view on this one.
However, good news for the English from this and one or two other threads on the theme.
We now have a real English flag.
Cheers admin.
Wait a minute. If England, Scotland...all have their own flags, why is there only 1 American flag? We should have Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas....

Why are you comparing USA to Uk and Scotland?

I know little of US attitudes to state Vs. country but I know a lot about English, Scottish and Welsh attitudes to country Vs. UK.
I'm not British, I'm English, ask a Scot if he's British and he'll tell you he's Scottish.
I can't comment on Northern Ireland as I've met so few people from that British held territory.
Yes, I do mean it. Ireland was a nation until Queen Bess the virgin did her thing there. That's where all the trouble comes from, the English invasion and occupation of the country.
Regardless of what you think of the situation in that troubled area of the world, there's no arguing it was England's daft fault because we invaded the place.
History is so interesting and so full of massive mistakes we humans love to repeat.
Wow, I've known lots of Brits, Scots and even some Irish, but never knew or even sensed that outside of England the other countries harbored such really anti-English and separatist sentiments.
All I can say, which also ties into history in a way, is that it's a darned good thing that they were by some miracle able to put all this childish fighting and bickering (over a group of islands you could put into a small corner of most of the US states or all of Canadian provinces) during WWI and WWII and pull together; otherwise now they'd all be wearing Swastikas and doing the goosestep instead of their petulant "I'm Irish not British", "I'm Irish not Northern Irish", "I'm Scottish not British" fighting. O drat, I'm fogetting that those nasty Yanks, Canadians an Aussies from over the pond had something to do with that victory.
Guess that's just one of the many reasons that the EU is in so damned much trouble and it will only continue. That whole "I'm not you and don't want to be like you attitude" common in the whole region.

The EU is in a lot of trouble because it's a construct of political ideas, political integration that no one voted for and monitory union based on lies and stupidity. Other than those minor points, it's a really good idea.
As for the rest, it's down to English invasions that were, and still are, deeply unpopular and another political integration in 1707 that was never going to work out. A hundred years of Personal union and a bunch of fat, corrupt politicians wasn't about to change attitudes.
Toss in a massively unfair system that was in force for a very long time and you have a serious movement for the break up of the UK.
As for the royals of the time, confusing mass of unbridled sex and illegitimate children were all over the place. No wonder they were all mad as spoons (But maybe it was a dose of the clap for Henry VIII)
However, there is a good side. Henry had a massive palace built that he named, Whitehall.
I've seen some non public areas of the old building and they're amazing to say the least. I can't disclose exactly where they are and most people will never even know of them but the sight is unbelievable. Interestingly enough, they're still a part of the seat of English (Or maybe British) government to this day.

Really? They're famously hostile toward each other. Call a Scot English and they'll make you eat haggis.
It's like people from California versus people from New York or people from Quebec versus everyone.
Yep, lot of lurkers here. 4240 sounds reasonable

Not exactly hostile, it's not the same as England and France where we were at war for 1,000 years and not at war for the last hundred or so.
With the UK, it tends to be local nationalism, not a cultural clash.
I have yet to meet more extreme Scottish naotionalists but there are some very rude ones in Wales. I recall walking into a pub one day; the moment they realised we were English, they switched to Welsh and totally blanked us.
Nasty bunch but most of the Welsh aren't evil gits as they were.
My Scottish grandfather who was born & raised in the US hated English people. Pierce Brosnan has a good line in a movie about how the Irish feel about the English.
the English stole the Irish greatest invention...
the toilet seat
The English made a huge hole in it.
