Are you tempted by a delicious KFC or a McDonald's burger? Or a nice “mine bouillie” in your favourite snack? Like most people in Mauritius, you're probably waiting for the lockdown to end so that you can have your favourite foods. How about getting them delivered to your doorstep?

Food delivery services are available in many regions around the island since a few weeks. These include fast food outlets, delivery companies and individuals. You can find them on social media by searching the restaurant or outlet you want to order from or simply the food and the region.

In early April, fast food chains like KFC, McDo, Pizza Hut, Debonairs' and Panarottis obtained their Work Access Permits (WAP) for take-away and home delivery service during the lockdown. Since then, many restaurants and snacks have also started providing similar services. In some cases, you can just pick up your order, and in others, it is delivered to your doorstep. Rest assured that home delivery is being made according to strict protocol.

While many restaurants, take-away snacks and fast-food chains are open, it is strictly forbidden to dine in. Chance are this will still be the case for some more weeks. So make sure you have saved the phone numbers of your favourite restaurants or take-away snacks. What if you suddenly have a food craving? No need to panic! A small post on social media can help! There are plenty of food groups on these platforms, and the members will be happy to help.

For example, if you fancy a nice bowl of boiled noodles and don't know where to go, join the famous Facebook group “Anou Partage Nou Mine Bouillie”. The pictures and recommendations are always mouth-watering. But there's a lot more on social media. There might also be individuals taking special food orders in your locality. So check whether your city or locality has a Facebook group. What if we told you that you can even have “rotis” and “dholl puris” delivered to your doorstep?

However, avoid making any advance payments, especially to individuals you might have contacted on Facebook. It is recommended to pay cash on the spot. In some cases, especially fast-food chains, you may be asked to pay by debit card or MCB Juice, but you can still pay cash. But be sure to hand them the exact amount as they may not have enough change.

It's worth noting that some fast-food chains, like KFC, now have a mobile app where you can order and make a secure payment. That will save you a lot of time when collecting your order. You can even get a discount!

Another thing to keep in mind is that opening hours have changed due to the lockdown. Most restaurants and fast-food chains are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the latest, but if you want home delivery, you better order before 5.30 p.m.

In some areas where home delivery services, you can order from websites like OrderManzer.mu or Fudz Delivery, but there's a fee, depending on your area. You just have to visit their site, select the restaurant and the menu and confirm your order. You can also order via Whatsapp. Regarding payment, you can choose from cash on delivery, MCB Juice or bank transfer.
