MM2H stamp validity

What is the validity for the MM2H stamp in your passport? Is the stamp for 10 years?
If your passport expires earlier than 10 years, does your the stamp still show validity for 10 years?

The mm2h sticker validity is linked to the passport expiry date

It is possible to carry out the extension of the remaining balance of the 10 years into the new passport no earlier than 3 months before the expiry date of the mm2h sticker

eg Mm2h sticker issued 23rd June 2015
Passport valid to 30th May 2018
Sticker expiry date 22nd April 2018
     Balance issued 13th January 2018
Expiry of new sticker 21st June 2025

Tip -  keep your expired passport (if there is a new number for a new passport) because it is often needed at a later dated. eg the passport number is the reference when a credit card is issued and to renew the CC will require the old and new passports to be shown if collecting the CC in person.

Thank you, Gravitas.
It is very strange that a stamp is not for 10 years, but up to some date before a passport expiration date.

In our case, we've been issued a stamp with the validity of MM2H visa just for 4 years, 9 months before our passport expires. We can't request a passport renewal  10-11 months before it expires, allowing 1-2 months for a passport to be delivered to us.

What are we going to do when the visa expires and we still have a valid passport  for 9 months? The earliest we can order a new passport is 7 months before its expiration and receive it in one month.

Do we need to insist that our agent fixes this now?

I seem to recall that only the peninsular mm2h visa is valid for 10 years from the issue date (sticker validity is subject only to the validity of passport).

Otherwise Sarawak and Sabah mm2h stickers are issued for 5 years at a time (although the approval is still valid for 10 years in total)

If this is the cause, then it seems you will have to renew in your old passport then carry out the extension into the new one.

It's an awkward passport validity that is the problem.

Something to be aware of, for those nationalities affected, is the Journey Performed requirement. If the sticker is not renewed before its expiry date a new JP is charged when finally extended

I guess you have experience of USA visas which don't have to be transferred into a new passport and are issued for the maximum time. Malaysia does not follow that protocol as an expired passport is not considered a valid document.

I see. Thank you so much for clarification.
It makes sense if their policy is to stamp only for 5 years. In our case, we will get a new stamp in our current passport in 5 years before it expires and then we will transfer the new stamp in our new passports.
