New members of the New Zealand forum, introduce yourselves here - 2022

Hi all,

Newbie on the New Zealand forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in New Zealand if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

Hi.

I'm Scott and although I was born in Wellington, I was whisked away to the UK when I was five to not so sunny Scotland.

With (hopefully) 12 or 13 years to go before early-ish retirement, my thoughts are turning to retiring in New Zealand.  I know it probably seems like a long way off, but I like to have my ducks in a row when thinking about plans, particularly something this big.

I carry both a UK and NZ passports and so I believe my entry and stay in the country isn't a problem.  My significant other, however, is British only and so I need to investigate the implications of that.  She and I are not married, although there's nothing to say that won't change.

I've holidayed in NZ a few times over the last twenty years.

I'm here to try and get as much information as I can and hopefully, with the help of the collective, I can get a grasp of all that's involved.  I have in mind where I'd like to live, but again keen to get the perspective of those already in the country.

I'm quite naïve regarding finances and transfer of pensions, etc. so it would be good to get some advice on that so I don't seem like a total idiot when I go and speak to a financial advisor...

Anyway, Happy New Year to you all and I look forward to interacting with you in the near future.

Thanks for the site and all the info contained there in!

Best

Scott.

Hi Team,

I am Fazlaan from Sri Lanka currently residing in Papua New Guinea.

I would like to move to New Zealand from Papua New Guinea, can anyone help me out?

Fazlaan.
Welcome to the forum.

Do you have a specialist skill?
To move you will need a confirmed job offer and plenty of money to live on for at least 6 months. This will be for rent and food and other living costs.
Not a cheap country to live in.

I suggest you check out the New Zealand Guide located under "Discover" at the top right hand corner of this page.

NZ borders are closed due to Covid-19.

Hi there

We have only just decided to emigrate to New Zealand and am looking for a reputable agency.

Any agencies you personally used, please?

Hello,

I'm a software consultant and planning to move NewZealand(Auckland) from UAE. I have been granted Critical purpose visitors work visa due to border exemptions. I am planning to travel NewZealand by end of March 2022.

Hoping that MIQ requirement will end by that time :-) fingers crossed.

Thank you so much for your reply. Are you currently in NZ? How has it been for you?

Hello there,
We are a french family of 3, who'd like to move to NZ in 2023.
I work in the IT and think it won't be hard for me to get a job, but the main difficulty right now is the visibility on border reopening..
We hope it will be clear shortly.

Hi there,

Looking for any info that can help a decision about moving to New Zealand once things open up again. I was born and live in Zimbabwe, but I'm a British citizen. My parents moved to NZ about 13-15 years ago, so aside from myself and my 18 year old son, none of my family are still in Zim. So thinking ahead, for a change, looking to get any helpful info about moving - visas, work, etc. Been doing some Googling, but any first-hand info would be great! :)

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

My son Pierre who is 21 years old is accepted for an internship in Thames from June 5 to August 27, 2022 and we are lost in the process of knowing whether he should apply for a visa or not because he is leaving less than 90 days.
@KiltedKiwi

Hi Scott, I've just joined the forum and I have similar questions to you. Can we stay in touch to compare notes?
Hello all,

Thanks for letting me in. I am British and married to a Kiwi who left his homeland in his teens. It has been our intention to live in NZ for a long time, and we set off in a sailing boat to go there some years ago. Various things have slowed us down and over the years there have been obstacles to achieving this goal, but hey what are goals for, if not for yearning for them. Years ago we made the best decision ever, which was to buy a house in NZ and rent it  out until we could go an live there. So I've been a non-resident tax payer due to that rental income  for over 15 years. We have visited NZ a few times, but I was never able to spend more than 6 months there, or work, or study due to being on a visitor visa.

So, end of 2019 I started to look into how to get residency, so that we could spend more time there, and ultimately settle there at the end of this intermittent sailing trip. I started a permanent residence application and started to gather the necessary documents and then there was a pandemic, and everything closed.

I've just started to re-open this process and hope to be able to ask questions about the PR via partnership route. I hope to connect with other people who have done this or are in the process of it.

Cheers, Steph
