Do you know how to get an EIN number? We faxed an SS-4 (attached) a long time ago but didn't hear back from them. We should have an EIN number, if not, we need to send another application. If we have it, we need to know what the number is.

EIN number is Employer Identification Number, similar to what in the UK is called a VAT number, used to used to identify a companies tax status. Normally they only require this in the country the company or business is located.
Are you registering business somewhere ?
The other requirement for employees is to show local authority that they are working for a legitimate tax registered organisation

This IRS website "How to Apply for an EIN" has contact information and phone number for inquiring about your SS-4 application. Surprised you didn't see it, I just googled it for you and it is the top result.
