Self Employed Visa Via Existing Sole Proprietorship

Hello!

I have been researching moving my family and I to Norway. The visa that seems to fit our situation the best is the self-employed visa but I'm finding some unclear information about the specific requirements. Some resources make it sound like you must form a new company in Norway and others sound like you can move your existing business to Norway. Can anyone provide some more clear input on the self employment visa criteria?

I would also be very interested in any other tips on acquiring this type of visa or the immigration process in general.

Takk!

Anodyne

UDI has categories for both, and I would use them as the primary source for how to do this. Either way, the requirements seem to be that your company (new or existing) is relevant to Norway and will be based in the country.

here's the information I found based on your profile saying you're American. There's a category for self-employed with company in Norway and with a company abroad): https://www.udi.no/en/want-to-apply/wor … a#link-834

Thanks so much for your reply! That makes a lot of sense that they have the categories for both. Would you be able to expand a little on the business being relevant to Norway? I currently meet all the criteria set on the UBI's checklist and my business is a clothing brand the specializes in underwear.

Thanks again!

I have no personal experience with how this is interpreted by UDI, unfortunately. Did you read through the information on the UDI link above? It might help determine if your business fits in the requirements for one or the other. The self employed with local business requires you to be planning long term business activities in Norway, while the self employed with business abroad says the company should be carrying out an assignment for a business in Norway.

So in short, I would say that if you're running an underwear business that has no clients or manufacturing in Norway, it might be harder to have your application accepted. If you're selling in Norway or helping to develop a brand for a Norwegian company, it's a better likelihood.

Oh, this info has so helpful! My plan is to open a base of operations for my business overseas to be more accessible to a lot of my customers. I'm hoping that choosing Norway for that would be a good enough reason to get an approval.

sounds like you'll be doing a company in Norway, in which case this is the checklist of information you need for the application:
