Cost of living for family of six

Abeaver30

My husband and I currently live in KS, USA and wish to relocate to the Netherlands with our four boys, ages 17,13,12 and 6. Our eldest will be ready for college next yr. What might the cost of living be for a family of 6 in a city that is located near a University? My Husband is an Automotive District Manager with a BSA and I am currently a teacher but looking at possibly getting my nursing license. Our current annual household income is about $120,000 but I’m not sure what our professions would pay if we moved.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

At the top of this page is our "Discover" section, if you mouse-over that, you'll get a drop-down menu with a link to our Netherlands Guide; my advice is to read that as it will have a lot of information that may help you plan your journey.

To try and answer your questions:

The Numbeo website offers information related to the cost of living; this link will take you straight there.

The "StudyinHolland" website may help you find the right course for your son; this link will take you there.

Regarding work - probably more problematic, more so if you don't speak Dutch.  Teaching and Nursing in the Netherlands are both regulated professions, so you will need to see that any qualifications you have are accepted there.  For nursing, I'd recommend you start at the "BIG-register"; this link will take you there.  For teaching, I'd start on the NUFFIC website; this link will take you there.

So, read the links I've provided and if you have any further specific questions, please come back to us.

Hope this helps.
