I will comment on the transportation element, it seems to be cheaper to ride the bus, but you stand a chance of arriving to your destination rather slowly.

I have found that my average trip cost bt taxi in  Amman ranges about 2.50 dinar one way.  So, if you have an appoitment I would suggest that you take a taxi, but if you have time to spare than a bus ride is quite pleasant.

Well, I am Sam, landed last week. Eat obviously outside or in the hotel where I am staying.
I've worked in Bahrain for two years, and in UAE for 4 years.
Comparing prices for hotels, a 5* in UAE cost less than in Amman! I am really surprised.
Also, food inside the hotel is really expensive, quality is not as good as I expected.
Noticed prices for known names, like Gant, Sketchers is far more expensive than UAE or Bahrain for same items. Even after sale, still high. Is it because they take tax on these items when it enter the country.
Even Carrefour is more pricy.

Amman is known to be the most expensive city all around !!!

yes, your observations are right as most items are imported and heavily taxed and customs imposed.
