What is Quang Ngai like for expat English teachers?

Hi everyone

I am an English teacher from South Africa who has been offered a job at a school in Quang Ngai.

I am trying to get some insider information about what Quang Ngai is like as I am concerned there will not be enough native English speakers for me to socialise with after work. I am a sociable and active person so I need to be around networks of people that I can genuinely connect with.

Can anyone let me know?

Thanks

If your main concern is being around other expats, then I doubt Quan Ngai is where you need to be. Try looking for work in either Saigon or Ha Noi.

I guess you are living in the city. It's my hometown, my younger sister has an English center for kids too.
When will you be there. If already here we can have coffee tomorrow. My phone is ****

I have never been to Quang Ngai but I have been to Qui Nhon which is a fair bit larger and down the coast about 150km.  Although you are unlikely to meet many (or any) expats in a place like that, one feature is that you will meet a lot more Vietnamese than you might in HCMC or Hanoi.  Locals who speak English are much more likely to approach you in a small town like that and they are less likely to have commercial motives than people in the big city.  Also housing and even street food should be cheaper there.  The best thing is that you will have access to really fresh seafood, clean air, and clean ocean water.  You will also be able to ride a motorbike there without fearing bodily harm.  If you only want to hang out with expats, don't go, but if you really want a unique Vietnamese experience it would certainly be worth a try.  Besides Terry above, you might send a PM to the fellow who started this thread:  https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.p … 15#4047085
