Free and low-cost leisure activities in Belgium

Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding leisure activities that are free or low-cost in Belgium. This information will give future expats (or even current expats) an idea regarding some of leisure activities that they might not be aware of.

Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in Belgium, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? How do you find out where events are organised?

What are the most common free leisure activities in Belgium?
Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?

Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.?

How do you maximise your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

For any one interested in gardening, growing plants on a balcony, visiting places concerned with growing all types of plants or hearing talks given by people who have a special theme in botany, the Gardeners' Club of Brussels is the answer. It is an English speaking club but has had members from many countries. The link is gardens. This year's AGM is coming up, so soon there will be a programme for the year. Hello Priscilla,

Well I can only recommend to go out and explore the countryside! Whether it is by foot or with a bike... That is entirely free and Belgium has very nice places worth visiting.

I am personally an avid hiker and runner. My favorite area for outdoor activities is in the Ardenne (South East region of Belgium).

There are hikes accessible to all levels - beginners, with kids, or most intensive, depending on what you are looking for.

In terms of trail running, I recently listed the resources I use to find trails:

If you would like to find a trail race to register to, there is a very good website that has an up-to-date calendar of all the events in Belgium:

If you are into biking, there is an extensive mountain bike network in Belgium.
You can browse, select a route, and dowload its GPX here:

I hope this is a good start... If anyone would like more advice please let me know, I would be glad to help.
