South Africans in Hungary

I am interested in learning how South Africans if there are any have found or are finding life in Hungary , Budapest and or Szeged to be precise. I am asking because every time i tell my friends and colleagues I am considering Hungary i get these weird glances  almost asking if I am out of my mind.

I am a single mom with a ten year old

When I move it will be with my current employer but on local terms.

Anything and everything that you could share will be highly appreciated.

Regards

You can see African people in Szeged (in the University district) and in Budapest. Just like British people in general though, we are limited in number too (a few thousand over the whole country); mainly due to Hungary as a country not being as exposed and/or as well known as other major countries in Europe (IMHO). I would go as far to say that Eastern Europe in general is ignored to a degree (in terms of smaller towns and villages) in geography lessons. Perhaps this is slowly changing in the classroom though due to politics and geography being more prominent in the news these days.

Either way, I would ignore your friends' wierd looks and enjoy yourself in Hungary. It is a beautiful country.

Thanks Peter. Much appreciated
