Hello everyone,

Finding affordable housing in Nairobi is number one priority for newcomers. Tell us more about the estate market in your district/city/region.

What are the most desired places to live? What are the most affordable ones? What is the average cost of a rented flat? And what is the average sale price for an appartment or a house? Could you tell us more about local real estate policies/procedures? What about property tax or residency tax in Nairobi?

What about you? Where do you live now? Is it a place you would recommend?

Thank you in advance for your clarifications.

Hello,

The most desired places for expatriates are Kilimani, Lavington, Riverside, Westlands, Karen, Runda, Gigiri, Spring Valley,Kitsuru and some parts of Kileleshwa.   Although the location depends with the expats preference and probably where his/her place of work will be and where his/her children will be schooling.

The rental prices are slightly higher in the above areas especially for furnished apartments and furnished town houses.
Kilimani and Kileleshwa are relatively cheaper compared to Westlands and Riverside.
On average a 2 bedroom unfurnished apartment in Kilimani cost KSh 75,000 per month and a 2 bedroom furnished apartment starts from Ksh 120,000 per month.

You could rent your own furniture from Upscale furnishings solutions the cost is cheaper than renting a furnished house.
