Termination of employment with personal bank loan and credit cards

Dear Sir/Madam,

How are you all? I registered to this forum to ask about my current situation. It's a long story but i will make short and precise. I am working with the government here in Oman, i am a filipino. I was recently got fired from my job due to article 40 (oman labor law) they terminated me november 2nd of this year without any notice. I just knew from a colleague that they saw me already deleted from the system and my land lord was asking when i'm heading out of my accomodation. I didn't get any call or email or letter. Nothing. They terminated me because i was sick for 23 days out of the country i was able to submit all the documents required but i guess they didn't want to accept or they were not convinced by the documents i gave. I've already accepted the fact that i got fired. My question now is:

If my employer fired me do i get gratuity? Or any entitlement of end services?
Does my employer will pay for my existing loan and credit card in the bank?
And what are the consequences if i got fired with existing loan in the bank? Do i go to jail?
Escorted in the airport?

I am terribly experiencing a panic attack
And anxiety because of this please help.

Hi Zedlav12,

Any employee, who has served long enough and is eligible for end-of-service settlement, would be given the same whether the employee resigns or is terminated.

The question is where are you now ? In Oman, or outside ? If you are outside, then your employer could have cancelled your visa, which would make your entry impossible.

Answering your questions, the first one has already been answered to.

You would have to settle all your outstandings of course.

If you do not have the funds with you to settle your bank and, credit card dues, you must arrange for the required amount and settle the pending balances before you can exit.

If you do not settle the outstandings then I am afraid you would not be allowed to exit the country and you could get legally penalised.

If you are already outside Oman, then consider it as a a blessing in disguise.

Thank you fot your answer Sumitran 👍🏻. My employer terminated my employment because of article 40.

I didn't recieve salary last month. But i still paid the amount due on my loan and credit cards. I can't pay the amount in full right now because i lost my job. It was suppose to be my last year month of paying but this happened to me.

i don't intend on running away on my debts and liabilities. But would i be having a problem in the airport on my final exit if i can't pay the amount if full of my credit cards and loan? I can pay the dues but not in full. Can i be in jail if they stop me in the airport on my final exit?

Hi Zedlav12,

You have not committed murder. Nor were you caught smuggling contraband, psychotic drugs, human trafficking or any such more serious and criminal offences.

You have defaulted on your overdue payments. That's all. It is something which can be fixed. So don't get so worked up. If the authorities start hauling up every single financial defaulter straight to prison, then they would need to convert half of this country into a secure facility !

Without panicking about jail, try and see how you can settle the outstanding amount, and exit in peace. I know it would be a big financial loss for you. But at least that would buy you your freedom.

And no price is too big for your freedom.

I am paying it monthly continuesly and never missed payment. Last month without a salary i'm still able to pay for it but i can't pay all in full. My credit cards are still active and i still pay for it. What my question is would there any problems with me exiting in immigration?

Hello. I read your post and I am interested how are you now. It's been almost a year since your concern has been posted. I am currently on the verge of same trouble and I hope you can share to me how you were able to handle this situation and whether you were able to exit Oman or what arrangements have you made with your bank? Thank you for sharing your experience.
