Marketing Jobs in Toronto

Hi there, I am a marketing professional with over five years of experience and a Business/Law degree. I have worked as a Marketing Executive for a multinational company in London the past few years and I was wondering what the opportunities are like in Canada?

I would be particularly keen to hear of any experiences any marketing/communications professionals have had finding jobs in Toronto.

It is very daunting moving alone to a new country to look for work and a place to live.
Your feedback would be enormously appreciated :)

Hi Douglas,
Thanks a bunch for your advice! I will certainly checkout Workopolis and look to living Downtown when I move there :D

Hi there,

As you are planning on moving from Australia. If you are moving from a larger city like Melbourne or Sydney, Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver would be what you would suit your life style. However, I still would strongly recommend you broaden your search in various cities. For your field, the biggest economies in Canada with the most multi-national companies will be in:

Toronto
Ottawa
Montreal
Vancouver
Calgary
Edmonton

Living expense wise ranking (most expensive to cheapest):

Toronto
Vancouver
Montreal
Ottawa
Calgary
Edmonton

You can check out as many Canadian company sites and visit their career pages and apply for jobs that you feel match your skills and education.

For example, the company I work for is called Shaw communications. You can visit their career page and I know for a fact that they are hiring like crazy and needs lots of people. Website is: shaw.ca

First thing would be to fix up your resume.

That is one example here. You can look for speficially financial institutions, marketing and consulting companies such as, Accenture (another company that is hiring like mad).

I think your next question would be how much salary you can expect. Well, as a new graduate you can expect anywhere between $50,000 - $60,000 per annum for fresh graduates. As an intermediate ( 3- 5 years of experience), you can expect $65,000 - $75,000. As a senior (5 - 9 years of experience), you can expect anywhere between $80,000 - $110,000. Ofcourse, these are for permanent opportunities. Contractors in general earn more because they do not receive any benefits, stocks, shares or bonuses. Just a flat hourly rate salary.

Personally, I am a Software Engineer who was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario and then lived much of my childhood in my country of origin and then returned at the age of 19 to study at University of Calgary. I continued to live in Calgary after I graduated since the quality of life I could afford here was amongst the highest. The downside is that Calgary does not have the glamor, glitz and the showy stuff that Toronto or Vancouver have. So there are trade-offs there.

However, there are beautiful mountains, lakes, ice capped mountains surrounding Calgary that make it a great place for weekend hiking, skiing in winters etc.

Any questions are welcome.
