I know that Mexico has excellent dentists but like anywhere has the quacks as well.  I'm looking for one with  a referral. Have you been to a good oral surgeon that you would recommend. Having an implant has some big infection risks to it so I really want to go to someone who is known for his/her excellent work,

I need a couple of implants and would actually like to get the newer ceramic based screws.   If anyone has a dental surgeon that you have complete confidence in please pm me.   (Please dentists and office staff do not try to be someone else. I have tracking on)

I have never been to Guanojuato  but have been to S. Miguel and to Mex. City. I speak fluent Spanish btw. having lived in Central America for 12 yrs plus. I live in the U.S. now N.W.

Hi, lightright,
I lived in Guanajuato and met a highly-regarded dentist. His name escapes name and I no longer have his business card. His office is near the Alhondiga and his very likable wife is a tall, blonde German. He is Mexican but lived in the US for awhile.
I also know of an excellent dentist in Mexico City. I had quite a bit of work done by him. His name is Carlos Medina Domenzain.

How did you like Guamajuato compared to DF?  Are the prices for hotel, food much higher?  I thought I would try and stay someplace for about 2 weeks at least to get everything going. Would you say Guanajuato or Mex city? I don't want to get stuck in overpriced hotels and restaurants and in fact may want to stay at a hostel if they have them in Guanajauto.   I may also be traveling with a little dog. Haven't decided that part yet.  I will look up the Mex dentist you refer.

Apples and oranges but love them both. Mexico City (DF)is huge so you'd be able to find plenty of hostels/hotels in any price range. Guanajuato (GTO) is quite small but also has a wide range of lodgings available except in October. One can walk almost everywhere in GTO whereas DF has a great public transportation system. I would suggest that you leave your dog home if possible.

Is GTO less expensive than S. Miguel A. ? It looks like Mexico is trying to detour American tourists from Mexico as they put new harsh rules on traveling with pets. There's a post on this forum about a woman in Mex. trying to leave with her cat. She's talking about walking home (ha)  Last year I an my dog were in his home town in Central America and it worked out wonderfully. I'm just not going there because I thought it would be more fun to go to Mexico and a shorter flight too!   I'm thinking now about what to do as I do not want to support Mexico's ridiculous move on pets traveling in, even if I don't bring mine.   Hope you can answer that question. I'd like to stay in a decent hostel with a kitchen if there are such in GTO. I'll google it too and see what comes up.

GTO is definitely less expensive than SMA and there are those of us who prefer it over SMA. GTO is far hillier, more colorful, and less gringoized than SMA so it depends on what you're looking for and what your knees can stand. Although to be honest, I have notoriously bad knees and GTO was never a problem.
Many hostels in GTO - it's a college and tourist town - may I suggest Casa Berta but there are many others.

I found Dr. Carlos Medina Domenzain  street address and phone but no email or website. He doesn' have much a web presence. I'll keep trying. I think recommendations for a dentist are essential when going to a foreign country. Some people have terrible experiences and come back to their home only to find out they have a bad infection. I've had almost all good experiences but i do want to go where they change their gloves in between patients.

I can certainly understand your concern. I ended up seeing Mr Medina over many months and I never had any complaints. I was referred to him by the individual who handles Banamex's employees medical referrals. Still, I'm sure that you'll find someone who will do great work at a fraction of the US price.

I have an amazing dental surgeon who works out of Guadalajara.  I have had numerous root canals and ceramic crowns done and am 100% satisfied. Let me know if Guad. is an option for you.

lightright

riccada I think a 4-5 hour bus ride to Guadalarjara is too far. There must be dental surgeons in D.F.  I cannot find a way to contact Dr. Medina.  I'd really like to talk before going down and I don't just want to walk into a dentist's office when there.
El Clavo do you have an Email for MEDINA?
I had hoped to get a much bigger response from people who had been to dentists around Mex. City. Now I'm wondering if the expaits go more to dentists on the border or in more touristy towns. ummmm  I have dentists in guatemala but the airfare is double that to Mexico. Although the dentistry is slightly cheaper (I think).  I'd really like to visit mex for a change.
