I have the same problem - after 3 years living in Libya,my older daughter (5 and a half ys.) should attend 1st class of Primary.  Since our native language is rare here, the best option would be in English. But I have heard that the prices (even for such small children)are abnormal - from 6000 LYD(Tripoli college) up to 22 000 USD(American)per 1 year !!!
There are some other options - I heard about the Russian (good and quite cheap),but still I am afraid that my girl will be confused about language ... I heard about some Pakistani school (in English), but have no details ....

Any help ??

Normally the companies pay for the tuition so the fees are irrelevant.

International School of Tripoli is a good school, managed by GEMS a known chain of schools in Middleeast. They teach UK curriculum. Tuition fees are dependent on the class the kids attend.

Check out their website at http://www.internationalschooltripoli.com/

There is a Pakistani school near St. James hospital. It is fairly cheap but over crowded and has a waiting list of about 200-300 students.

There is also a Filipino school in Janzour and Indian school as well. All of these use English as the medium of instruction.

The American School is quite good - very small and high student to teacher ratio.  New school, only been in operation for a few years.  About 35 different nationalities there which makes for a delightful multicultural mix. Yes, I am affiliated. My daughter attends there.

Thnx Sidd , thnx justice

I know that Companies usually pay tuition, but it stands only for strong western Co's such as Shell, Schlumberger, ..etc. Unfortunately,I do not belong to this circle, the Company I work for has a small income range. You guess that Dierector do not even want to hear for possibility to pay for this.  I'd choose American school (I find it the best) but fees are essential. I cannot afford it. So ....:(

Which curriculum has he been following to date? What languages does he speak? What is your own preference?

Again .... I am asking for information.

Does anybody know where is the russian school ?    My daughter will be 6 in April. I guess they start with regular classes from September.

Siddiqui

Zlatan, not sure about the Russian school.

For info on the Paksitani school you can contact the Pakistani embassy on 021 361-0937.

The course work and medium of instruction is English. The teachers are all Pakistani though and most of the student population is also Pakistani with an increasing percentage of Libyans.

Let me know if you need any more help on this one.

Regards,

zlatan
