Hello Siva

Congratulations on obtaining the job!!!

Getting a driving licence should not be a problem and I am talking about a long time back.

If things are the same, then it would be best if you get armed with an International DL from India - I take it you are an Indian?  To get an International DL, you will need an Indian DL first.  With this you may be able to drive temporarily.  You will have to approach the Zambia Police or Automobile Association of Zambia who will guide you on ability to use the International DL.

You should get some lessons from a reputed driving school (I obtained my Zambian DL at the first attempt tanks to my late father's instructions).  You need to be able to drive in and reverse in the shape of a "T" (empty oil barrels are placed in the shape of the letter "T" - you drive in first, then reverse to the bottom of the "T", then drive up and take a left and then reverse to the bottom of the "T" - all this without going forward when you have started the reversing motion).  This may have changed but it is well worth learning this.  The drive on the roads is okay but you will need to do angle/box and parallel parking - these will be taught by the instructor.

It is a joy to drive in Zambia as the roads are in excellent condition.

Good luck once again.
