Should I bring a car to Zambia or buy one once I arrive?

Hello everyone,

I'm moving to Zambia at the end of May (nowhere to live yet, might post separately about that!), and I'm deliberating whether to buy a 2nd hand VW Polo (5/6 years old, 33,000 miles on clock, £2,000 only!) and ship it to Zambia (via Dar Es Salaam) or buy a 2nd hand car when I'm out there. I will be living in Lusaka + travelling to Copper Belt occasionally so I don't think a 4x4 is necessary.

I can't find much on this site to guide me in my thinking, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated, e.g.
1. How much would I be able to get a similar 2nd hand car for in Zambia?
2. People who have had vehicles shipped to Dar, how have you transported them to Lusaka (if not driven yourself)?
3. What needs to be done in order to drive an imported car legally in Zambia, what are the costs involved?

There's probably lots of other things I should be asking, but I've never organised anything like this before, so any advice you can give me would be gratefully received.

Thanks!
Emily
