Opening a bank account in Hungary

Hi all,

is it difficult for expats to open a bank account in Hungary ?

Which documents are required to open a bank account in Hungary ?

How long does it take to open it ?

Is there any restriction for expats regarding the services (loans for instance)  ?

Which bank would you recommend ?

Thanks in advance for your participation,

Julien

It is very easy indeed, you need your passport and if you have hungarian address then your lakcim card. otherwise you can give your home address. It takes maybe 30 min. Depending on the bank and account you need to see the requirments for initial deposit, e.g. citibank required but otp not. Chosing bank depends on your needs obviously and it makes sense to shop around for costs (if you know what you need most - e.g. there is big differences in terms of currency costs). For normal users the bank stability does not make too much difference (although you might want to stay away from austrian and italian banks you you deposit millions of euros...)

Hi tomasc!

Thanks a lot for your help ;)

Hi Julien,

You only need your passport to open a bank account in Hungary and VISA/Residence Permit. It's a very easy process. You will not find any difficulty. You can open it within a day. I use Raiffeisen Bank in Hungary. It's services are fast and great but the monthly cost is higher than other banks like OTP, Citibank, etc.
