I have lived in South America for the past 5 years. In the last year I have chosen to permanently retire in Ecuador in a city named Cuenca.
Cuenca is a city in the highlands, very temperate in climate. Always comfortable, never really cold or hot, never need heat or air conditioning.
I have had all the experiences (maybe not "all") that an expat will have when moving to a foreign country.
Moving furniture in container, getting documents (visas), working with lawyers, buying real estate, investing, etc. etc.
I can tell you that living in Ecuador is a very pleasant experience. The people here are very accepting of "Gringos".
(north americans). The food is great, healthy.
Medical costs and facilities are great for the retired person especially. Transportation and infrastructure are good, however, not like in North America. Taxis are cheap, buses cost 25 cents to ride anywhere.
Basically my experiences are available to share with anybody. If you need help here contact me anytime.
Good luck and happy moving,
Joe www.live-in-ecuador.com
