Dubai is one of the world's largest and fastest growing metropolises over the last decade. The best restaurant, beaches, museums, art centres and many more are appearing in Dubai every year. Overall, the UAE is considered one of the safest countries in the world. Students especially choose to study in Dubai due to the safety and comfort they provide. How does it feel to be a student in such a modern city like Dubai?

Student accommodation

Some universities in Dubai offer students a cost-effective living option. While others don't, they do suggest some companies which could assist with those inquiries. Keep in mind that student accommodation is only meant for students so you cannot live there with family. If your family is planning to move with you to the UAE, it's best to rent an apartment. Usually, you can find studios, 1, 2 or 3-bedroom apartments, etc. Prices vary according to the type of accommodation and the location. If you choose university accommodation, most of them provide buses. If you prefer driving, first you need to have a local or international driving license and then get it converted if required.

Leisure activities

Most universities in Dubai offer recreational facilities, including tennis courts, gaming areas, entertainment rooms, etc. There are also many student clubs with different interests where you can socialise and make new friends. If you want to spend time outside the university campus, Dubai offers a wide range of entertainment: beaches, parks, museums, restaurants, etc. The most famous beaches in Dubai are JBR Marina and the newly opened La Mer. Both provide water activities and many cafes with different cuisines. Some universities event organise yacht parties, picnics and gatherings where students can relax and get to know more about each other in a different environment.

Cost of living

If you are looking to live on your own, you should know that the cost of living will be higher than in university accommodation, for example. The average rent price of a studio is AED 40,000-50,000 per year. For a 1-bedroom apartment, count around AED 55,000 per year and 70,000 per year for a 2-bedroom apartment. The first thing to consider is the location of the apartment and the distance from the university. The price for an apartment near the metro, for example, is slightly higher than in other areas. Food in Dubai is not very expensive since some supermarkets offer a few times per week 'the deal of the day'. This offer applies to fruits, vegetables and meat. If you want to save money, try as far as possible to cook at home rather than eating out. It will not only ease your budget but also keep you healthier. As for getting around, will take time to arrange for a car and have an appropriate license, so in the meantime, you can use metro and public transportation which is quite affordable for everyone.

Student discounts

The best part of being a student is that you are eligible for student discounts. RTA gives a special discount to students in the metro. Many restaurant and cafes also offer special prices for students as well. All you have to do is to present your student ID to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner. Some gyms and retails shops usually offer a 10% discount for students. Feel free to inquire at the university administration. Besides, remember to register with ISEC (International Student Identity Card) to get more discounts.
