What do international schools in Belgium offer?

International schools in Belgium cater to children from kindergarten through to secondary education. Many of these institutions are affiliated with the international Cambridge examination network (UK), while others prepare students for the International Baccalaureate (IB), and some employ the Montessori pedagogy.

Most of these schools use English as the primary language in the classroom. However, German or French is used in a few of them. In most cases, the programs are bilingual.

Degrees in international schools in Belgium

International schools established in Belgium prepare students for various degrees, depending on their educational orientation:

  • British Schools: they follow the National Curriculum for England and lead to IGCSE/GCSE exams (end of lower secondary) and then A-Levels (end of upper secondary), widely recognized for university entry in the UK and elsewhere.
  • American Schools: they award the High School Diploma and prepare for standardized tests such as the PSAT, SAT, and sometimes the ACT. AP (Advanced Placement) and Honors options are often available.
  • International Schools: some schools follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which allows access to universities in more than 100 countries.
  • National Schools (German, Japanese, Scandinavian, etc.): they apply the official curricula of their home countries, allowing for a smooth return to the national education system.

Facilities offered by international schools in Belgium

International schools offer comprehensive programs and activities for children. Each school is equipped with facilities for sports and other extracurricular activities.

Most of them have modern facilities (sports halls, libraries, laboratories, creative studios) and strive to provide a rich, multicultural, and stimulating learning environment.

International school fees in Belgium

The tuition fees in Belgium vary from one school to another. As a guide, most British schools charge between €6,000 and €35,000 per year. This amount may vary depending on the student's level, transportation needs, extracurricular activities, and costs for daycare and cafeterias.

Good to know:

Many international employers based in Belgium, especially in Brussels or Antwerp, offer partial or full coverage of school fees as part of the expatriation package. Be sure to discuss this during your contract negotiation.
