Maybe you only think you need to find

an immigration attorney whose office is

located in or near Arequipa.

When I applied successfully for a visa for

Colombia, I hired an excellent law firm based

in Medellin even though I was far away

in Quindio throughout the application

process.

For the part of the process involving the

presentation of my USA passport in the

capital city, that was handled through the

mailing system and the moderately-priced

fee of the attorney's agent in Bogota.

@cccmedia You make a valid point. I thought a face to face initial meeting would be preferred, but I might need to be more practical and go with what works. Thanks for your response!

I am doing it myself and so far so good and has been surprisingly easy. If you're still in the States get your SS (if you're getting social security) benefits letter and your police record, get them apostilled, and bring them with you to Peru. That will simply the process even more. I've been doing it all online and over the phone, it's a bit time consuming but not difficult.
