Health insurance in Colombia for newborn with preexisting condition

Good evening,

Does anyone in Colombia have experience insuring a baby who was born with a congenital condition? My son was born in Bogotá a week ago with a minor condition of the kidneys. It is expected to resolve on its own within a few months, but our pediatrician tells us that insurers will call it a preexisting condition. I am a U.S. citizen and my wife is a Colombian citizen, so we have both national and expat insurers to choose from, but I'm not aware that any insurer will cut us any slack on this.

So, I wonder, when Colombian health insurance providers see a preexisting condition, do they refuse to cover treatments related to that condition while handling the rest of the child's health as normal, or do they raise the whole premium even though it's just a minor problem in a single part of the body? Also, will they regard my son as normal when the condition resolves itself, or will they use this as an excuse to charge him more money for years to come?

I'd be grateful to hear anyone's experience insuring a baby in Colombia born with a congenital condition, especially one that resolved itself with time.

You say you are looking expat and local unsurance. Why dont you ask the insurers themselves.

Or at least go through their Tsand Cs.

Forget about EPS and probably medicina prepagada...basically anything in Colombia.

I tend to agree with your pediátrica.Pretty hard getting any insurance going in with pre existing conditions.

You have to " get" a Colombian doctor to write an " historia clinica" stating the " conditions " ocurred after you obtained the insurance..but thats pretty risky if you already have a historia clínica in Colombia stating something different.

You might have to treat your babies treatment out of pocket unfortunately. The silver lining is its way cheaper than Colombia
