One of those Brazilian things - poppy seed cake unknown in Brazil

mberigan

I'm laughing. I'm on a binge of doing old "recipes that mom used to make" and just finished making some oatmeal cookies having had previous success with peanut butter cookies (PB also made from scratch). I was setting up to make a poppy seed bread and was having sticker-shock on poppy seed prices which are about 5 times the cost in the states and then I found out why. It is illegal to grow poppy in Brazil out of fear that "alternative" uses will be made of the seeds.

WOW!

Brazilians mostly have never had poppy seed anything.

Hmmm, I lived in the USA for 60-years, but never saw poppy seeds for sale anywhere, just pre-made muffins, did I miss out? I liked the chocolate chip or blueberry muffins better anyway, LOL.

😂 I brought about a half kg of poppyseed, dill weed and dill seed, and cardamom when I came back home this past week.  Practically nobody knew what the heck any of it was.
