(We're not) The Jet Set, We're the old Chevrolet set - Recife visits

mberigan

Hi,

This week we ventured out from our isolation in Campina Grande (A WHOLE YEAR) to get some essential stuff done with the help of the wonderful folks at the Recife Consulate. That requires an overnight stay and I'm writing to make a little recommendation.

But back to my topic title for just a moment......
"(We're not) The Jet Set, We're the old Chevrolet set..." If you like American country music (not my preferred genre but...) and have an ear for a pretty great song, The Bobby Braddock song performed by John Prine and Iris Dement is, well, classic. Go ahead and search up the lyrics.

The Pousada Lorde Ingles on Rua Padre Ingles in the Boa Vista neighborhood (Recife) is a 4-5 minute walk (slow pace under the hot Recife sun) is a great little place to stay when you need to make consular visits. There's no nearby beach but there is a good commercial area on Av. Conde da Boa Vista as it heads to the center of town.

The people at the pousada know how to take care of visitors as long as you're not looking for 5 star hotels or nearby Michelin rated restaurants (there are none BUT don't miss Restaurante Leite located not so far away). They have the HOTTEST showers around (solar heated water) and do a great breakfast. You'll love the place if you're still part of the "Cheverolet set" that I belong to.

So, go to Youtube and check it out: "We're not) The Jet Set...." Prine & Dement.

PS - Sorry but I have to mention that if you like that Prine song he has another song which is appropriate for these times of isolation and loneliness. Kinda sad but motivating to reach out and help elders who are alone in these times: John Prine's - "Hello In There" also on Youtube
