Power of attorney in Brazil

homendepicanha

Can please somebody tell me what is the process to get a power of attorney for a foreigner in Brazil. I am from the UK, hold a brazilian permanent visa, RNE and have a CPF. I would like to nominate my mother in law who is Brazilian to be my power of attorney, so that she can collect my newly issued RNE on my behalf, as I will not be in the country to collect it myself. Can a power of attorney be done at a Cartório in Brazil. Thank you.

Are you in UK or Brasil?
If in UK you can have one done by a solicitor and then translated and signed in the presence of and by any Notary Public and apostilled.
In BR I would find a lawyer to help. Mather in law may be able to help.

In Brazil, it can be done at a Cartorio. Abroad you can do it at a consulate.

Thanks for your reply. I heard that is was possible to do the power of attorney at a Cartorio. Just wanted to check if the process was any different considering I am not a Brazilian, even though I have permanent visa, RNE and CPF.

I had an issue here with POA at Cartorio. After a few times visiting them they became better, but had to use a lawyer (knew the place) to get it.

Always take someone who is fluent in Portuguese. It helps a lot. The process should be the same no matter who you are or where you are from.

Thanks for the tip! My Portuguese is mas o menos!

Do you have to know how much it costs to get a Power Of Attorney issued at a Cartorio? I looked online but couldn't find this info. Thanks

I don't know. I would think it would be minimal. I think it depends on where you go.

The Judicial system appoints/approves the position and/or company and pays the cartorio a percentage of each process This percentage can be different in each area. and hard to find most fees unless you ask at the office.
