Registering a domestic employee as a foreigner in Brazil

alastairkinghorn

Hello everyone, I have been living in Brazil now for ten years. I have a permanent visa granted on the grounds of marriage, although since divorced, and recently renewed my visa with indeterminate validity.

I have a domestic worker, and in accordance with recent changes in employment law, and her wishes, applied to register employment.

The process adds some cost to my employing her, but gives her important benefits as well as securing my legal obligations.

A problem has arisen in so far as the bureaucratic process seems to have omitted the option of a foreigner making this application, because it requires entry of a reference code from the Brazilian electoral list.

Has anyone come across this problem, or have any information that might assist?

Thank you for any information that you may provide.

Hi there
as far as iam aware, that no 'non' Brazilian's. Will never be able to vote, so they will 'never' be "added" to electoral  list

Thanks spanishpete! I need to clarify;   The computer system for the registration requires an applicant to provide their electoral role registration number. It does not allow for a foreign applicant, who, as you point out, will never have that registration code. The system has not been designed to cater for a foreign applicant.

You may need to go there in person to resolve this.

Yes, I am using an accountant and she is on to them, but is still having difficulty resolving the problem.
