Paying Boleto as a foreigner

If you "own" your apartment, you must have a CPF and CRNM, so, go get a bank account, no ?

There are sketchy online quasi banks as well, or. you can simply go stand in line at a regular bank to do it. That's all I can think of.

Give the money to a friend who has an account and they can pay it

You do not need a CRNM to buy real estate in Brazil, only a CPF - by law...

I was just wondering how integrated he was document wise.

You should be able to pay in person at any Lottery location or a bank branch.  I'm guessing you'll need cash, which you should be able to withdraw from an ATM.

Hi Roy, I’m Lauren, I’ve been living in Brazil for a year, for the first nine months,  I paid monthly  apartment rent using my American Visa card. I simply asked the owner of the apartment if they accepted credit cards for payment. I live in Goiânia here a lot of landlords except credit cards for payment. I hope the practice is the.same where you are. I hope this helps.

This is what I do but I'd also like to switch to controlling it myself...

Hoping to check into some banks when I'm back in person in Dec but I also only have a CPF and haven't found a good bank option that will let me open an account without a residency card. I also wonder if that would cause me to pay Brazilian taxes if I have a bank account 🤔

Just having a bank account will not cause you to pay Brazilian income taxes (you may still pay small financial transactions taxes on activity in the account); living in Brazil for 183 days or more probably will.

I am in Brazil but do not have a Brazilian bank account - only be here for 4 months- how do I pay the boleto for apartment I own given my credit card and debit card are american and I have an american bank account.
Any suggestions?

Walk into a banking branch, cash on hand, and bring in the issued boleto.  Preferably the Boleto and the Issuer have to match. If Bradesco is the issuing bank on the boleto, then go to a Bradesco Branch.

Is that simple.

A boleto is a pro forma invoice ("pro forma" because it's not a legal nota fiscal) that's the normal payment device for buyers and sellers in Brazil.  It's drawn on the seller's bank, but up to the due date can be paid at the buyer's bank or at any bank or loteria.  It has a unique readable barcode and equivalent number, so it can be paid at an ATM or through a banking app.  Many if not most payments end up being computerized bank-to-bank transfers, with no exchange of currency at all.  We just schedule all of our boletos through our banking app as we receive them, and they get paid on the due date.  I imagine that your wife does that, too, so you never see them.  As you might deduce from this description, it makes payment really easy for anyone with access to the Brazilian banking system, and really hard for anyone abroad.

Good information. How does that work exactly? I've been trying to do that for a while. Do you pay by machine that they have or when they send you the bill? Do you scan the QR code?
