Lost with permit under marriage

Hi everyone , im so lost that i dont even know where to start .

i got married to a Brazilian Woman in California and we moved to Brazil, is there a permanency to apply or just a permit that i have to renew from time to time ? i can only find residency permit. but being married shouldnt i be able to have residence ?

Good morning.  Yes, you need to specifically apply for residency.  If you were married in California, it's a shame that you didn't take care of the first step of the application at a Brazilian Consulate there.  It would have made everything much easier for you.


But since that did not happen, you're going to need to apply to the Federal Police here.  In this thread, you will find a list of the documents that you need to provide to them:

In a different thread, you or your wife stated that you've already overstayed your visa.  If that's the case, then it complicates the application process in very serious ways.  As I said in that thread, you should consult an attorney as soon as possible to determine how to approach the Federal Police to obtain your residency with the fewest possible problems.
