We have moved to Itajuba in Santa Catarina

somethingfunky77

Hi everyone. My name is Nigel and I've recently moved to Brazil with my wife and son.

We have moved to Itajuba in Santa Catarina to be precise and well, I'm here to meet English speaking people who live around here while I learn the language. Any information to help me settle as an expat?

My wife is Brazilian and we live close to her family. The only thing really is for me to make friends which i think could help me settle better.

Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Do not make friends with English speaking expats, nor regularly hang out with them.

You will need between 700-1100 hours of language immersion to gain a level of fluency in Portuguese so you can live amongst the population.

Watch local TV, ignore western/English language information. Once you have a level of fluency that allows you to operate independently the world opens up to you.

This should be your ONLY objective in the next 12 months.

09/24/23  @somethingfunky77.  Welcome, Nigel!  That area is pretty popular with expats and a couple of members here seem to live nearby, so I imagine that you'll find some English-speaking people pretty quickly.  Enjoy the beach, and we're here for any questions.
