As understand this blog forum having participated in a couple different countries, the idea is to share openly that type of info for all to see...no need for private emails; indeed it's preferred. 

You are in Sydney?  This forum is for Brisbane.  Do you have tips for Brisbane?  If so, please post!  Would love to find the same quality of info and details here that I found on the Libya forum.

Stuart, did you get any good info?  My husband has a job offer inBrisbane.  We've been expats in several countries - always on temporary, one or two year terms.  This offer seems more long term.  We're Canadian  and US citizen family.

To other expats there in Brisbane, what are the top things you wished you had known or were glad you did know before you moved there?

If he takes this job he'll be getting there in spring we'll follow when school is out this summer.  Means our daughter will be out of school through December.  Not a bad prospect.

I would also be interested in information related to Brisbane. We are Canadians from Vancouver and will be relocating our family of 5 to Brisbane in the fall and staying until summer or fall 2012. I am a teacher and will take leave, so I may just home school our 6, 7 and 9 yr olds as we would also like to travel and explore different things in Australia.

So far I've been disappointed by lack of expat info/sharing here on this blog.  If you read my profile you'll see I was in Libya -which has an incredibly dynamic forum.   (am in Calgary now) I learned a lot from them before I got there and a lot after arriving...and passed on a lot of info there as well.  (even after we left, I still contine to touch base there - quite an interesting community.)

Anyway, there is a blog by an american woman - found it through this Expat.com.  Address is:  http://cristishawareb.blogspot.com/ (you'll probably have to copy/past if I don't get the link done right).  Anyway, there are some good nuggets on info there.  I posted a question to her via the PM, but no response yet. then again, they've had a cyclone go through there....
