I am coming to a cross roads at the moment, to stay in Dubai or too go. I find it very difficult to meet people that are decent, especially with men 8:1 ladies.. I miss my girlfriends back home so much and find it so difficult to have a girls night or have girlfriends that are true to themselves like i had back home... Please let me know if im crazy or if this is how it goes?

Hi Candzigrl,

Well, I can understand what you are talking about. I have been here for 2 months and I have the same problem. I feel lonely and bored as my life is now basically moving around going to work and getting back home to do nothing. Besides, I live and work in Green Community which is relatively outside Dubai side itself.

However, what I am try to say here is that give yourself a fair chance before making a decision. I know the 8:1 men to women ratio is awful, still, not all men should be put in the same category if you know what I mean.

I understand how you feel. Have you thought about joining some groups so you meet people?
Try this link, there are lots of things going on. I know it is hard but you really need to put yourself out there, things will get better. Good luck

I also want to add, it is really very hard for both men and women to find true friends here. That's something which can be very frustrating.

true how u feel.. but i am sure on a girls night out u could still meet girls and hang out, or forums can be interesting place to start finding like minded frens u can keep,

I'm seriously considering canceling my contract and going home exactly because of that. I have been struggling for 2 years but I'm already close to my breaking point.

I just joined this forum.
And am with you on this.Have never been this lonely.
Maybe cos Dubai has a large population of expatriates and we all know we won't become citizens here,people are not ready to make real friends,
Plus the few you have are not so real.
Moving back home is a constant thought on my mind!!!

There are many opportunities for volunteer services, group social work and so on. These are avenues where you will meet new and neutral acquaintances. More than that, the activities themselves will keep you busy enough. In due course you will start looking for weekends and holidays when you can contribute to events that are significant and useful to someone in society. I do not want to sound like religious, but your true friend at all times is not a physical person around, but someone who is deep within yourself.

Difficult for men to remain decent...esp those who are single.

But yea, rightly said , dont consider all men to be same .

This ratio of men to women is misleading as u have to exclude the men which are just coming to dubai to earn some money & living in what ever conditions.

I have lived in jakarta for many years & comparing to that the dubai is such a rude country, nobody guides u properly.

all signs just refer to fines. I think they only want to run the country by fear.
