Okay, now that I have your attention, I'm hoping some of you will take a minute to reply to this post !!!!!!!!!!

So .... my first (and only) trip to Dubai before leaving the Middle East will be next week and I'm trying to find a place to stay that won't break the bank!

Now, the only reasonable places seem to be in "Bur Dubai" and "Deira" or way, way out in no-man's land!  Is Bur Dubai really so bad?   I mean, is the place really crawling with hookers and low-lifes?  Is this maybe just on a particular busy street and other sections are okay?  Can you suggest any hotels?

PLEASE .. come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn .. help me out here!!

And.. thank you :)

Ah, you mean the Golden Triangle?

As long as you're not obviously touting for business, then you'll be fine. While I can't recommend any hotels (try Booking.com), there are plenty of very reasonably priced eateries in the area. The Lebo restaurant next to Spinney's on Mankhool St is very good.

There are plenty of visits by the Feds to dissuade the working girls and other low-lifes from spoiling your day.

It's real simple in Riyadh:  there is nothing to do.  Seriously.

Oh come on, be a sport now! We can have a sleazeball competition -

- How genuine is the fake Armani T-shirt and the Aviators?

- How pointy are the shoes?

- How much cheap gel does he have slapped on his hair?

- How many times in a minute does he call you "baby"?

- How long does it take him to get the picture (never?)
