Frustration with Forum to the moderator

cdw057

I tried to be a bit active on the Turkish forum, but overall it is very inactive, I will still visit from time to time, but the era of active contributions is largely over. I go to Turkishliving.com as an alternative.

Hello cdw057,

I understand your frustration, especially if you were used to a more active forum before. Unfortunately, the Türkiye forum is not as active as it used to be.

On our side, we do continue posting monthly threads on specific themes and hope that members will participate, as they do on the other forums.

That said, if you are able to find the information you need elsewhere, that is great, and we are happy for you.

Hopefully, things will pick up again here over time.

Cheers,

Cheryl

Thank you for coming back, but I think the expat forum is especiqally meqant for expats. What is important for them in my view:

  1. Ikamet
  2. How to enjoy (especially in the late stage of life), restaurants, shopping, ...
  3. Aidat, complex living, sea,
  4. Cost of living,
  5. Taxes, banks, how to receive pensions, how to get benefits from DTT, .. One could say money is not important, but it is (if enough money buys comfort)
  6. .....

I have given enough leads, but if nodbody follow up, what can I do ??

What is definitely not important to most are:

  1. Scams
  2. Employment letters

Why are these topics always at the top of the forum?

@cdw057

A few more topics, healthcare, how to deal with a funeral, property market, ..

Cheryl

Thank you for pointing all of this out.

Just to clarify, the way topics are highlighted is carefully designed to keep them relevant across all destinations on the forum. Since we cover many different countries, we need to keep the main categories fairly general.

For example, a topic like ikamet is specific to Turkey, and many countries do not have an equivalent system, so it would not be relevant for the broader expat audience.

In those cases, we encourage members to start dedicated threads in the relevant country, where the discussion can go into more detail and be more useful for those directly concerned.

As mentioned before, feel free to start new threads on any topics you feel would be valuable.

Unfortunately, the lack of posts have a compounding effect on future posts since each thread is short lived with no posts and other members rightfully view the site as uninteresting and boring.  The numbers of active members dwindle.  I too have started many threads and hardly receive any responses.

You would think a forum for people living in a new country with new  cultures and way of life would enthusiastically share or query about many topics.  I agree that not much can be done to incentivize more discussions.  A group of 10 or more people would need to post diligently serving as a catalyst to initiate more activity.

For Turkey I now use Turkishliving.com
