Bordr online for NIF and bank account?

Andrew Rockwell

Has anyone used this service for their NIF# and opening a bank account?  Click the link to see the Bordr website.

Bordr for NIF#

Bordr for bank account

If Bordr is not possible, is one month in Portugal in August enough time to accomplish this?

Hi at a guess I would say yes but we did our nif through our solicitor back in 2017 & we opened our bank account in less than an hr. hope you get sorted out.

I tried to use it today, and website says they are not taking NIF customers now. You have to give email address and they'll get back to you....I'm in the UK for reference.

Hi,

I am not sure you will be able to do that online and alone, from abroad.

You probably need to be present in Portugal to open a bank account also as they need to see an ID, a NIF in your name and an address most like it. Portugal is a very bureaucratic country and hence there is a lot of paperwork for anything.

It is my experience that whenever I go somewhere, I am being asked, 'what is your NIF ?' even in supermarkets, where it's optional of course in that case but it can become annoying sometimes.

You most definitely have to be in Portugal to open a bank account, if you are not using a solicitor then you have to be in Portugal to do your nif also.
The reason you get asked for your nif almost every shop you go into is because every month there is a cash prize draw done on the government website also if you pay IRS (taxes) then with your NIF number on certain things it comes off your taxes.
It may be annoying but at the end of the day it does have some benefits.

Applying for a NIF number/open a bank account is also possible without being physically present in Portugal. If you are a non-resident and want to apply from outside of Portugal, you can get all of this, through a solicitor or lawyer in Portugal who agrees to act on your behalf.

These certified professionals can do all this for you through the "power of attorney"/ "Procuração".  You have here all contacts, emails and phone numbers to get in touch with the professionals you choose, preferably with a working address in the city where you intend to settle in Portugal.

You can send an email in English to several professionals, ask for quotes on what you are looking for, etc.

Do not appeal to online solutions developed by non-professionals (many of them are not even portuguese) and that often take more money than these certified professionals. Remember that even in these online services you have to give them the power of attorney to handle your documents. And if something goes wrong, you have no one to call or complain to any institution...
