2 Questions about D7 housing and arriving flights

Hello Expats who have recently moved to Portugal! I searched through the forum threads and did not find anything, so please forgive if this is a repeated inquiry. My husband, son and I are moving to Portugal this summer and have our appointments with VFS Global San Fran in one week. We have everything together except for the letter of housing/sponsoship and our flights.

1st question: Does anyone have a template letter that they would mind sharing which covers the sponsorship/invitation for housing requirement? We have a few friends in the Algarve that are going to let us stay with them while are closing on our house and I understand that under the new regulations the wording is important in this document. Please help if possible.

2nd question: Do we have to fly into Portugal directly or can we book a flight to Seville and drive from Seville?

Hi,

I’m not sure about the template, however two years ago we wanted to drive a hire car from Seville to Faro but we couldn’t cross the border and hand over the car in Faro.

We had to go to Huelva Bus station and take a coach to faro airport which we had to book way in advance as the seats get taken up, also we found the staff in Huelva didn’t speak much English so we allowed plenty of time to find the station and bus stop.

1. Template letter which covers the sponsorship/invitation for housing requirement / "Carta de Conforto"

You can use the template provided on the SEF (Serviços de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras de Portugal) website. Print and fill in with the info & signature of your host.

(Responsibility, PDF doc)

You can translate PDF into English using a Doctranslator, such as:

Only people with a residence permit or Portuguese citizen can make this invitation letter.

2. You can travel directly to Faro. I don't understand the reference to Seville...

I have a question regarding the template you posted. I see many consulates in the U.S are actually asking for a contrato de arrendamento for which you would need a NIF. Does usage of the above template not require us to have a contrato de arrendamento?

Hi Tyler,

First go to the web site for the Portuguese Consulate in your residence area:

(Country name in Portuguese)

You will need to apply online for an appointment at the Portuguese consulate in your current region. There will be a list of what you need to provide to them to begin the process. The exact required documents can change between regions.

Then go to the SEF.pt website and there will be a list of what you need to provide to the SEF office in Portugal when you get here.
