Permanent Visa or...?

Bomdia my friends expat!  I wanted to clarify something about permanent visa.

# Someone of AIMA told me before that there is two types of  PERMANENT VISA, or in another name like LONG TERM VISA? and two types are slightly different between them in terms of rights and benefits.  Will someone clarify informations about these two types of VISA?  At my recent visit AIMA person told me only about PERMANENT VISA telling me that I should email AIMA to start a PEDIDO. request. Is this right?

@Ms.Kamado Neko,

There is no PERMANENT VISA or LONG TERM VISA.

What you probably want to know is about permanent residency or long-term resident status .

You can apply for long-term or permanent residency through AIMA after completing five years of continuous legal residence in Portugal.

Autorização de Residência Permanente (Art. 80.º): Standard permanent residency for third-country nationals with five years of temporary residence

https://aima.gov.pt/pt/viver/autorizaca … e-art-80-o

There is no expiry date. However, it will need to be renewed every 5 years.

Estatuto de Residente de Longa Duração - ERLD (Art. 125.º): EU long-term resident status providing similar rights to EU citizens and mobility options.

https://aima.gov.pt/pt/viver/aquisicao- … -art-125-o

Valid for 5 years. It can be renewed if you wish.

Thank you Johnny for your answer! I will rear more about these two links you sent me. I may come up with other questions later on.  Many people prefer Permanent visa rather than Long duração, is this perception correct? Wishing you a great day    Kamado
