I just renewed my residence permit, which expired on December 9, 2025.

I submitted all my documents online and yesterday received an email saying that it had been accepted and I would receive my new card in the mail.

I was under the impression that I had to get a new photo, etc. Is this not the case?

I ve worked out thar ny current cost setup precludes me from living in Portugal,I shall remain a visitor until or if I get married

Hi Lorie,

If the AIMA portal allowed you to complete the application and payment without scheduling an in-person appointment, the system automatically reuses your biometric data (photo and fingerprints) already in its records.

Since taking a new photograph is strictly an in-person requirement, the fact that a visit was waived confirms that your previous data is being reused. This also occurs with the renewal of certain documents for portuguese citizens, such as the driving license.
