EU visa requirements

Do EU citizens need to prove income when applying for residence over 90 days? Thanks!

Yes, they have to declare that they have the financial means to live in Portugal.

However, this process is much less bureaucratic than for non-EU citizens.

@egchelsea: I also registered with an Irish passport (in Funchal in 2022). Although I had to sign a β€œDeclaration of Commitment of Honour” affirming that I had sufficient means to support myself, I was not required to show any proof of income or savings.

@egchelsea,

For EU citizens, these are the requirements and documents:

Concerning income, you have to sign a Declaration, under oath:

  1. that you are engaged in a subordinate or independent professional activity in Portugal; or
  2. that you have sufficient resources for yourself and your family, as well as health insurance, provided that this is required in the Member State of your nationality for Portuguese nationals;

What a stupid question!!! Have you heard about the basic concept of the EU ? EU citizens don't need to apply for a visa to go to Portugal and even less a proof of income .....

@egchelsea

You don't need to apply for anything.

All EU citizens just go and live in Portugal. Nobody is asking them anything.

I wonder where you got that requirement from ??? You are I'll advised.

@juliajonesjy,

There are no stupid questions. No one here talked about visas, but proof of income. And answers have already been given concerning this issue ...
