Buying Stuff Online From USA To Be Shipped in Portugal

Hi All,

I would like to purchase some stuff from Amazon USA, to be shipped to Portugal, because I live here,

Does anyone know if I will have to pay any customs fees during the shipping? or are there no custom fees for stuff purchased from USA?

Thank you

I ordered a couple of things from Amazon UK post-Brexit. The consignment got stuck at the Lisbon centre until I paid tax, which more than doubled the price of the goods. So, there is definitely a risk.

The best way to shop Amazon in Portugal is to shop online at the Amazon store in Spain. All VAT is included in the price and shipping is free and fairly quick. Portugal has no Amazon store. Importing any products shipped from the US is very complicated and expensive.

You have to pay the tax on any goods bought from outside the EU unless the company has paid the tax (which is unlikely); this has been the case for two years.

Amazon US already have an estimate custom and tax fees when you check out on purchases,  but am not sure if this will it, or there is still a risk to pay more once the stuff received to Portugal.

You will probably have to pay more. Always set some extra money aside. But you most probably can get the same item from Amazon Spain., give it a try.

I'd say our experience has been it's slow and often items are returned to US as they didn't clear customs in Portugal. We've found Amazon ES and Amazon DE generally have most things the US has, albeit they are more expensive but at least we get them!
