Need help fast!! Renewal family immigration

NMgirl

Hi! I am married to a norwegian man (7years), we previously lived in the USA the last 10 years . We decided to move to his country, I received my resident card super fast (took only 2months), but I ended up staying in the United States for work and to help my parents while he was in Norway.

It came time renew my resident card, however I hadn’t been in Norway >6 months out of the year, so I figured it wouldn’t be approved.

Anyways, I was told it would likely be denied but then processed as a new resident case. I have been in Norway now, and finally received the letter on my renew case (took 8 months). The letter basically says I need to provide reason why I wasn’t in norway (I wrote a letter in my renewal case stating this already). It says I can’t be here legally, but that they can’t kick me out? It’s rather confusing!

Has anyone gone through a similar situation? Do I need to leave the country? And reapply for everything all over again? Or is it possible they will just deny the renewal case but grant me a first time resident card again (or, starting from scratch). I have 3 weeks to write them a letter back:(

Hi!

If you're outside of Norway for more than 3 months in a row, you will be denied permanent residence status. You should be able to apply for midlertidig (the same as you got last time) and be ok. I can't see any reason they would reject your application, especially since you have been married for 10 years. You can appeal the decision, and while you appeal you are allowed to stay in the country (but you can't work).

There is a Facebook group Americans in Norway Immigration you should join. They are really helpful there, and there are many who have been in unconventional situations.

Hope this helps a little.
