Hello!

For my boyfriend to apply for my residence visa, we have to prove we are “single” and not married. How do we do this?

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

You're talking about a "certificate of no impediment"; these are required for getting married in a foreign country (must admit I've never heard them being asked for a residency permit; hope I'm not spoiling a big surprise here).

Anyway, to answer your question, your info says your a US citizen, so you need to contact your home State authorities in the USA who deal with marriage and ask them for the certificate.
