Air Conditioner units - portable

rooikat

Did anyone buy an aircon from the guy who had about 6 for sale at about €250.00. If you did and you have been using one of them, does it work well, and if it does, what is the make? Needing info on buying one that's effective but is not going to break the piggy bank :)

No one? So next question, is anyone using a portable air conditioner purchased in Malta that works well - any brand names & places of purchase? :P

Hi rooikat,

I hope you get some information as it is quite hot now and the temperatures don't drop much during the night.

I have seen portable AC units in shops but I have no idea how well they work!

Cheers

Had some experience of these when I worked (yuk, dirty word!) we used large portable ones that were very good. The only downside that I remember were that they had to have a place to vent  and drain (warm air and water), so an open window and or a drain point. The smaller ones may not need this or perhaps technology has moved on?
What about hiring on for a period to try it (if you can find a plant hire place in Malta that does them)?

I have a portable one in my office in Switzerland and it works quite good. 2 Problems with portable ac are:

- you have to have an opening or something like that to vent the hot air

- portable ac is rather noisy

Other than that it is a great investment :)

Thanks very much guys, all useful, might look at a short hire to test, especially as we won't be able to cut holes in the landlady's mosquito netting! We are 99% mosquito free inside our flat so opening the screen to vent the hot air might create a whole new set of problems :D

I can give you some feedback next week when I have collected one from a person selling me a new one and I have collected it.

Thanks Redmik - we will investigate in meantime.
