Malta Gas Heater Repair

PrashPatel

I live in Malta and like most people heat my house with gas heaters.  One of the has stopped working and was wondering if anyone knew of a place I can get it fixed?

Have you checked it with a different regulator?

PrashPatel

Yeah it's not the regulator, as I can light it by keeping the knob pressed on top of the heater (as you do when you first start it up).  But when I let go of the knob the flame just dies.

It was working fine but just stopped lighting all of a sudden and all I can think of is that the gas inlets onto the burners meed cleaning out.

I tried myself but am so useless at these things that I couldn't even open up the panel to get at the inlets!  :'(

I would still try a different regulator

If you can light it with a match and it stays on then its just the auto lighting bit thats not working and you can just light it each time with a match/ gas lighter, however if it lights and goes out when you release the knob then its the safety override that not working and you shouldn't use it.

Not sure that they are worth repairing as the cost of a new unit in the shops is low and a repair will entail sending for spares and labour.

Appreciate the feedback.  Thanks!

I will try changing the regulator but if the problem persists then I'll just skip it and get a new one.

the low pressure regulator costs about 10,-, the burner plates 30-40,-, the valve about 20,- and the ignitor 5-10,-
A new gas heater is about 60-80,-

When the pilot flame is burning but not the burner plates, it's either the fault of the valve or the burner plates.
If even the pilot flame goes out it's the fault of the regulator or the valve ... or the gas hose is leak ?

If you cannot check it yourself, bring the heater to any hardware store or ironmongery, they can find the failure and they can sell you the necessary spare part ... or advise you to buy a new heater ;)
