Hi,
I'm a divorced mum with two children about to return to uni in the  London area to complete their final year's studies. I currently live in Cornwall, but during my life I have lived all over the UK. I have two horses and a dog and I work as a community Carer which means long hours spent travelling around looking after our ever growing elderly population in their homes.
I am looking forward to moving to Ireland and buying a house where I can keep my horses at home again and embrace the Irish experience. I am half Irish which shows in my looks and temperament. I hope to be able to find part time care work locally as I enjoy my job very much.
My house in Cornwall is being marketed and I'm looking for a buyer so that I can start the ball rolling as soon as possible.

I am traveling to Ireland in October and am interested in this blog, as I am nearing retirement and am dreaming of my next adventure. I want to learn about Ireland and why people moved here and decided to stay.

Hi gang! We're a family that pulled out of Southern California and transplanted ourselves into the west of Ireland. We live in Connemara in Spiddal, 17km west of Galway with our 4 and 3 year olds. I'm Dave and my wife is Bridget. She's an Irish national with family in the village and I'm from California. The kids are in Gaelic school so they can talk about me and I won't know anything. That won't last, I'm learning muahahahaha.

Dear readers and fellow-expat (or expats to-be!),

Exactly one week ago I moved to Ireland from my home country (The Netherlands) due to a great career opportunity. I am only 22 years of age but bursting with ambition, confidence and general curiosity to see the world, and in this case, the part of the world that is Ireland.

Given the fact that I am in a wheelchair and that I have moved on my own to a city where I do not know a single person, it has been a busy but eventful (joyful) week.. Until now.

Let me explain: as my move to Ireland is a permanent one, I am looking at a second-hand Volvo V70 to purchase in the coming week. Back home I have had a full EU drivers license, almost 4 years of experience (albeit on the right side of the road) and built up to 2 years of no-claim bonus. I have spent my the past week and this entire Sunday to get a quote to insure the Volvo I expect to buy, but literally none of the insurance agencies are able to offer me a quote! Some of the reasons for being denied are 1) not having lived in Ireland for at least one year, 2) not having a 5-year no-claim bonus and 3) despite having a ful EU license, it is a license for the RIGHT side of the road instead of the left. I consider myself to be a rather optimistic person but I am really starting to lose the confidence that I will be able to get a car insured for myself so that I can get myself on the road, literally!

Being alone in another country is difficult on its own, aside from having to depend on a wheelchair too. A car is my only means of real mobility (going where I want to go, when I want to go) and having that mobility taken from me is  considered a small personal catastrophe. I am both physically and financially unable to depend on public transport!

I am at quite a crossroad here; if I do not succeed to find any car insurance at all, I am being forced to reconsider my move to Ireland. As you'll understand, that is not a consideration that I want to have to make! What can I possibly do to get me out of this wretched situation? Any advice, experiences or possible solutions (ideas) are welcome.

I am sorry to hear about your difficulties regarding the insurance. My only advice would be to seek advice from the Dutch embassy, they may be able to give you some tips on how to proceed in this situation.

I couldn't tell if I was successful in posting my first attempt an introduction so forgive me if I posted twice here.
We moved from California to Connemara on August 14th of this year. My name is Dave and I am a US citizen married to an Irish national. We've been married for 12 years and have two small children. We found our place to live and three days later the kids started Gaelic school. We probably wanted a lot of the same things many expats want as we feel like aliens in the country we grew up in. There's so much to appreciate that I won't go into it here. I speak for my wife Bridget and I that we look forward to connecting with others here and sharing stories. Im an English Chef who has worked and lived in Portugal for the past four years, previous to this i have worked on a year placement in Ireland, and in America. I feel that now my life is taking me back to Ireland. Im interested in living in either the Cork or Galway area and was wondering if anyone has any information, suggestions or pointers as to finding jobs, homes etc.

I myself have a lot of experience as a Chef, currently managing my own team in a busy marina restaurant. My partner has experience in a lot of different areas, and is portuguese. Could do anything from cleaning, restaurants, nanny etc.

I have carried out a lot of research etc so far, my aim is to be there by September next year. So, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

I would like to move there having everything set up but I'm not sure if this is going to be easy?

Thanks so much for the invite...I will be in Ireland Feb 10-17th to refresh my knowledge and gain some familiarity.  I have pretty much made up my mind that I would love to relocate to Ireland, but of course need to do my due-diligence.

I plan to stay in the Kilkenny area.  I will do little day trips to see what inspires my and hopefully be able to narrow down an area in which I would like to live.  I have been chatting online with a Meetup group in Kilkenny and they will be having a couple of functions while I am there.  Of course any suggestions are more than welcome.
If all goes well on my trip, then I plan to list my home and start making plans for an actual move.  I am semi-retired so not concerned about employment, but am very interested in finding activities to stay busy and keep my mind from turning to mush

i have worked in the media industry in malawi as news reporter for a dacede, the with time, i wanted to change my career into another field either in the technical or science.
i enroled with university of malawi to study computer science, but two years behind the line lost sponsorshipo, this led me to leave school and look for employemnet.I the then moved to south africa, where i worked in the domestic industry and hospitality.now i want to relocate to ireland.
while in south africa, i have learnt skills like gardening, handy man work,housekeeping and old jobs.
am therefore looking for a full time live in work as i dont have friends and relation that side, am therefore looking for a wonderful and friendly family that i would offer my expertise and servises while i meet the ends

I understand what you mean, I just celebrated my 13th yr in ireland. It takes about 5 years to get the feel for this country but you will. Just been to sa in december and as much as I like the heat and would like to hang out with my friends and family, I now understand why I am here. My life is different, simple but different and I get to enjoy doing the things I cannot enjoy back home. Its cold but I am use to it now, I have found ways to enjoy life without letting the cold, and dark get to me. I have no family here and my husband and I hardly go out at all. we don't socialise as such but it does not bother us because we are morning folks anyway. We are too busy to get lonely around here and we do enjoy life here in ireland believe it or not. We have a 4 yr old daughter. I hope you find a happy spot to enjoy the good things about living here.
