COVID-19 and expatriation in Hungary

Marilyn Tassy

What in the world does an infected person smell like?
Maybe eating a kilo of sausage before a check might help with the dogs?Put their noses in a twist.
I would say these scanners are more likely picking up on anything that has been injected into the blood and not picking up a virus.
Micro chip or something in the vac sets these scanners  to rest.
Those without the ,"mark" set the scanners off.
Maybe it's the sweat dripping off people at these check points?
So now TSA agents are doctors and qailified to make medical diagnosis?
I want a one way ticket outta here!

My very limited knowledge suggests there might very well be detectable substances released when your body fights covid.
Some people are just good at working stuff out

I suppose some people are high risk for C-19.
I should be one of them but so far so good.
I just stay away as much as possible from everyone.
Had pretty much perfect health until I didn't, never know what the future will bring.
Nothing to do at all with my lungs or C-19, that would just be the icing on the cake if I got that.
I don't have a vax and probably in my case it's not a good time to even think about getting jabbed.
I had no plans on getting stuck but now, I can't do it or I'll probably have a bad reaction.
Have a freind ATM in Ca. who has been in the hospital for over a month because of a back issue, now while laying about so long trying to walk again ect. she has come down with pneumonia while in the care of her doctors. I just don't fully trust doctors.
How can you be in their care and get so ill?
I believe she is one of the unjabbed.
She is now stuck spending the holidays in the hospital, OK, it's probably a nice one in Santa Monica but still, she misses her home.

Nah, there are no chips in there.    Just look at the cat/dog chip scanners.  These have to be held really close to the animal to read the information of the chip which is about the size of a grain of rice.  Far too big to fit down a vaccination needle.  In any case, they are passive devices powered by the electromagnetic field (like the chip in your passport).  You need to be very close to the chip to produce enough of a field to power it up and read the data.  A mobile phone on its own won't do it.   You'd need to be standing inside an electromagnet.  Just pointing a phone at someone ain't gonna cut it.  You'd need something like an MRI machine to power it up from a distance.  And even if you did power it up, how is it detecting COVID19?   They can only do it definitively now by PCR which is a genetic test that takes days. No-one has a real time genetic testing system.

It's a scam to sell this "technology" with BS descriptions of how it might work.   The sellers must be laughing all the way to the bank and the UAE government has been hoodwinked.

Dogs are really good at sniffing stuff out but they have to be trained and they might get it wrong.  There was one dog I read about which was trained to sniff stuff but it was not sniffing drugs, it was detecting something else.   The operators of the dog thought the dog was working OK but I am sure the drug mules were rather relieved!

My male Doberman used to sniff peple and always walked away until once.
My sister brought her BF to my house and my dog went nuts on him.
He jumped up and starting ,"humping" his leg.
My dog had been neutered too!
I always knew that guy was off somehow.

Yes, dogs know something for sure.

Our dog wants to be everyone's friend but she has more recently started growling at some other dogs and specific people.  But she's quite friendly with the cat and they play together a little bit.

My dog only had a spat once with a German Shepard, good thing both were on leads and we could pull them apart.
The Shepard's owner was odd, we passed each other while walking our dogs, the guy was all shabby looking and was carrying a stick, a large stick. Think the stick set my boy off more then the other dog did.
I would trust the nose of a trained dog long before I'd trust the judgement of a TSA agent.
I got,"busted" nce while cming off a flight from Europe.
I was s tried I had forgotten I kept an uneated sandwich in my bag. Thought i'd eat it later before we landed.
Couldn't get past the dog. My husband about had a fit because that brought over 5 TSA agents and they decided to go through every bag we had.
Gotta watch out for sandwich smugglers.

It's not just sandwiches.  My precious banana was taken from me arriving in Florida. I was also planning to eat it but didn't get around to it.   We were given it on the plane.  I volunteered I had it when asked by the official nosey parkers rifling through our variably clean underwear.

So it makes me wonder if I had eaten it on the plane, would they have taken the skin from the banana and disposed of it in FL or would they have flown it back to the UK where we started from?

Seems a bit OTT to me but I can understand they want to keep the insect pests out.  I think the risk might be the other way though.

So off topic but I remember when we brought a bottle of fine whiskey on board and would share with whoever happened to be sitting in our row. No hassles and fuss.
Always had fun on those old flights getting to chat with strangers we sat with for the long hauls.
Now days it's more like I hope they cover thier mouths and don't try to speak to us.

I know very few people that have contracted COVID over here on mainland Europe and I know quite a few. But there is so many friends and people I know in the UK that have tested positive. I wonder if they are taking it seriously?

Mass gatherings, hugs and kisses, not a mask in sight. No wonder they had 3 days on a trot of 110,000 + cases.

I don't know anyone directly who had it.  Same in the UK.  Everyone is jabbed up to the eyeballs and it seems to be keeping everyone safe.  I've tested myself a few times here using some free test kits I got from one of my UK relatives - absolute nada, nothing, zilch, nul point.  Makes me wonder what we are reading in these statistics.  We hear about 100K testing positive, but we never know if it's actually killing people.  There's a statistical lag but no-one is saying there are X attributable deaths.  So we have no way to know the risks.  I beginning to wonder what this is about.

Meanwhile, here in HU, the situation is pretty dire.   So many anti-vaxxers and people who do not believe the science.  The number of deaths in the population is very high.  Seems to be running about 150 a day which if it was proportionally applied in the UK, it'd be like 1000-1200 per day.   So it means here, in HU, it's rampant.   Not clear if it's out of control or not.

We're pretty angry about COVID right now and how it is messing up everything else.

The system here in HU must be close to breaking.    Everything in the healthcare system is now COVID related. Apparently a few days ago Mrs F's uncle had a stroke but they mucked about testing him for COVID instead of giving him clot busting drugs immediately.  In the UK, they see a stroke or stroke like symptoms, they don't wait, they give the  patient the drugs immediately and then mess about with COVID testing.  He ended waiting 24h before they decided to treat him for a stroke. They even sent him home to await the COVID results.  It's  critical to give the patient the clot busting drugs within 4h to make sure a close to full recovery.  Now the uncle cannot speak and cannot swallow.  He's recovering a bit but it could have been all so unnecessary if they'd not waited.  Looks like total incompetence from where we are.  And it's not the first time.

BTW,  while COVID is in the news, there's a pipeline of s**t coming down soon - gas prices.  I heard people are going to be faced with bills 3 to 4 x the normal cost.  Without subsidy it's going to break people.

A really interesting statement I heard from a financial analyst was about people who have made a load of money from buying gas forward a year in advance.   If a factory bought gas like that and whatever they make on widgets they sell is 20%, selling their gas is going to make them a massive amount more perhaps 300% more on selling on their gas futures. It'd be more profitable to shutdown the factory temporarily, send the staff home on reduced but useful pay and re-open in a year when the gas price has stabilised again,  That's going to cause some interesting discussions in the corridors of power.

I am not surprised.  I'm really saying in my previous post that things are far worse here.

covid19 nearly 8000 new cases and 436 deaths in hungary  over the past four days

So that's like 109 deaths per day over the Xmas period and for 7 times less the population.  In other words, it ain't working here, it's just bad.

Looks like a punishment regime inspired by Macron who doesn't seem to think things through and seems to be angry about Brexit and everything else.

His wife has got some trouble too over various accusations on social media over her gender.

There's also the British  tourists turned away from Innsbruck because the Health Minister in Austria screwed it up.

Brexit ballcocks I'm afraid (apart from Macron's wife).

Who me?  No, I don't think it's insulting to mention something in the news. I did say accusations, I wasn't joining  in with  it.  I'm definitely all for her to do her own thing without judgement.  We British have lost April Ashley this week.  She was activist royalty.

But I'm mainly interested if Macron is annoyed about something or other as it will affect his re-election campaign. He's using every opportunity to rubbish the UK because of Brexit and make it difficult. He's no master at finding an enemy unlike OV.

I'd seen a comment on Twitter about Macrons wife being dragged into a social media spat that had gone legal; it didn't interest me, so I hadn't followed up on the story and I'm surprised the UK redtops haven't been all over this.  Regardless of the story and how insulting it may be, suffice to say that it seems to be par for the course for the family of public figures to become illegitimate targets in the political wars being conducted by their spouses.

As for Macron and Brexit, I agree, he does seem to be getting angrier and his posture more combative; his advisors are only looking as far as the next election, which in the scheme of things is understandable, it wouldn't surprise me if they are all up to it.

I'd heard from some old colleagues that P&O are looking at re-instating the Hull-Zeebrugge ferry; I suspect the fact that Euro Tunnel (the railway operation, not the tunnel itself) is now wholly French-owned is not helping as the French will be taking a hit on the lost trade and I read in the UK press that the UK Government have declined to support it financially - I suspect this will be one of the pieces on the board when Truss begins the negotiations - it will help Macron in his bid to get re-elected.

I'm not surprised no-one cares about Macron's wife.  Whatever secrets she holds, meh, who really cares.   But it's true that if you are in politics or a public figure then you're in for it.   Politicians deserve a level of investigation.  After all they are being trusted by the public to be their representative, so there has to be some accountability - look at Rees-Mogg, how the mighty have fallen.

What I see with Macron is him having a rather obvious meltdown - it started with Brexit, then we've had the fish, COVID travel spats and now the Australian nuclear submarines.   It's like old times with our French friends. I bet  Agincourt is back on the negotiations agenda.  Macron is unlikely to be re-elected - French rarely elect for 2 terms.

Hull-Zeebrugge could be useful but travelling by road from here to the UK is going to be a problem because of Brexit transit hassle through other countries and if COVID madness still has us in its grip in the future.  I reckon it'd be workable if it was in a foreign (i.e. EU) registered car but not in a British one - I suppose one is likely to get stopped in Germany, maybe France and possibly Austria.  Those countries have cops and customs patrols hanging around at the borders. In the past we have done multiple road trips to the UK doing a considerable amount of tourism enroute and visa versa. I am not sure I'd do it now unless it was an emergency.    Euro Tunnel I've only been on once.  Every time I've looked at it, it's been far too expensive to save 15 minutes.  Easier to get on the ferry relatively early and have leisurely breakfast in a proper place before the madness of the M25.

Not travelling is a problem everywhere.

My sister is going on a long cruise on Monday.    We've taken to referring to her cruise liner as a plague ship.  Mainly to wind her up as she seems to be permanently on holiday somewhere.

Be funny if they wouldn't let them off.   Spent thousands travelling to remote tropical islands only to see them from a ship (aka mobile hotel) as they pass offshore by a few miles.

Be interesting under what conditions they let them off at the end.

Noticed several cruises have been in port but no one let off.
Not the best time to be locked up in a tiny cabin room.
Not everyone can afford a room with a view.
I'd have a very large bar tab if I was locked inside a inside cabin for weeks.
What a nightmare.

Think it's a mistake because it couldn't be a worst time to go.     They can afford a big bar tab so I don't think it's a big issue for them.

But horrible if you get trapped and quarantined for 14 days on your holidays.  That's even though they are fully jabbed up but they do have  vulnerabilities.  Just what a strange time to be trapped on a ship with a bunch of infected people.

It's obvious people are going to be infected in that size of population.  There are 4000+ people on a cruise ship including the crew.  I understand they check them every few days.   Won't be enough.

Could go wonderfully or be a total nightmare!

I've never been on  a cruise in my life.
Did take the ferry from LA harbor to Catalina Island once.
My husband got sea sick and I wasn't a big fan of sailing either.
Defo not a great time to chance being stuck onboard with ill people.
I can't see where having a bit of fun outweighs the chance of lossing your freedom and being locked up.
I am not a gambler.
I knew a lady in Las Vegas who was from the UK.
She came to the US in the 1960's with a group of other dancers from the UK and they stayed friends all those many years.
They were all beautiful Vegas show girls.
This women did yoga with me and was perhaps in her late 60's , about 15 or more years my senior at the time.
6' tall and still a beauty in her old age.
She had a holiday home in the UK on the beach.Somewhere in S. England.
She hated to fly so would take a cruise to
France and then fly over to the UK.
She lead a very glamorous lifestyle and shared it with her American boyfriend.
I knew her for several years and she would always talk about her holiday in the UK and always looked forward to going every year.
Well sadly her last trip to France wasn't glam at all.
They arrived and decided to play tourist in France before heading over to their beach home in the UK.
Well while out in a tour group she went off to the WC and died on the toilet.
She just stroked out on the can.The group was heading out and they went to collect her.
At least she was looking forward to a good time but it really broke her friends up back in Vegas.
Sadly her boyfriend got nothing, even was evicted from their shared home in Las Vegas.
Her family went after every penny she had and got it all.
Not sure what that tale has to do with cruising or C19 .

It's not unusual to go while in the loo.   A friend of mine's grandmother went in a similar way but her heart gave out.  Sometimes there's a lot of effort going on and it puts strain on the body etc.

I could say, she went doing what she loved.  Magic of the moment etc. But that would be rather flippant.

Mrs F has a theory that things leaving the body is source of pleasure although maybe it should be termed relief sometimes.  Everyone should be able to relate to that idea.   Putting stuff in is also quite nice (meaning food here).   Babies live for this kind of stimulation in their daily routine.

I read a book recently called "Gulp" and it said that most animals, humans included are simply mobile digestion tubes whose main aim is to procreate.  The digestion tube is just a means to that go forth and multiply purpose.

Viruses such as COVID19 also do that but they are not alive as such (trying to tenuously link in the topic in hand).

Didn't Elvis pass away on the toilet?
I wouldn't say the exit is better then the enterance.
I'd rather eat a nice meal then deal with the "end" results!

Ah baby bums, many a time I've sorted them out.   It's OK when they are really on just milk but when they get into real food, then you're into major cleaning exercises.   When they are fighting against you during a clean up job is when it gets interesting.

Folklore is that Elvis left the earth while contemplating the world.  I think he might have been on some kind of medication at the time.

I say folklore because everyone knows he's gone into hiding somewhere and awaiting his chance to join in on the second coming.

Whatever one does, one shouldn't mess with Elvis(es).

A bit linked to the topic travelling over Christmas

A long time I posted on Covid, at the very start I posted some items and I got some negative feedback on the hoarding of supplies.
We (my wife and me) were in voluntary isolation for well over a year (in concrete, my wife who likes to swim did not go (admittedly Heviz lake was also closed for a big part), we did massive shopping online (wine, 120 bottles per time, meat 50/100 kg per time (good we had a fridge, smoking 400 packages Marlboro per time, vegs/fruits as much as possible from own garden and for the rest canned etc, once per 2 months, also buying a pallet of sparkling water (ie 400 bottles or so).
We had our first two jabs last April and after we considered we should be allowed to per June 2021do things (restaurant, going shopping (for my wife), visiting neighbours, .....)

As most of you will recall the situation in summer was actually quite fine with Covid, and at the time we received an offer for our property (which we accepted), we were already planning to go to Turkey and so we did and bought a property.
We returned to Hungary and got our third jab, so all was fine and I really think it is and was.
But Covid can still be nasty even if it is "only" Omnicron.

In a village in Hungary with a huge plot and a few nice respecting neighbors it is much more easy to be in quarantine rather then in a complex of apartments have to deal with bureaucracy face to face, meet new people,.....

Bottom line, we are not dead at all, but I feel that we have caught Omnicron and even after 3 jabs it is no pleasure, but such is life.
I feel we should have postponed our move to Turkey for at least a year, but not many people would have been skeptical last August I would have thought (STILL ME MYSELF TO BLAME)

I'm sorry to hear you may be ill with whatever they are calling it this week.
Hate to say it but it's no wonder you may of picked up a virus of some sort by moving to a new country.
The water, food, everything is slightly different and your body has to adjust to new "germs" and new everything.
It is also stressful to move so perhaps it is just catching up to you.
You may of allowed yourself to get run down, drinking, smoking and running around will wear anyone down.
It's important to get your body back in balance.
Many people lose their lives while trying to save their lives.
Meaning you can overdo islolation and now with moving and going out your body may not be used to other people's germs, your defences are low from avoiding everything.
I know you mentioned going to the barber every 10 days or so. I worked in the beauty business in the US where they have very high health and safety standards in salons.
Even the use of a comb that has not been properly santized can invite illness.
I've noticed over the years here in Hungary and having gone to so many different salons, most high end, that many stylists pull out a hairbrush that had hair still attached from a pervious client ect.
It's actually gross. They don't disinfect the clippers after every client either. Easy enough to do but many hate spending the extra time cleaning between cuts. Just a quick brushing of the blades and they get to the next client.
The human body had so many bacteria on it that it is wise to know the place where you allow yourself to get close to other people's life, they carry their lifestyle and germs, viruses bacteria on their bodies.
Some people go into a salon without being clean or having just come from the gym or some dirty place.
It may be best temp. to shave and such at home.
I've taken too teaching my husband how to trim my hair.
So far he has done pretty well, better then some salon cuts I've had over the years actually.
It's important that the barber has clean hands and equipment as well.

I don't go out of my way to avoid  people but then again I'm not getting too close either.
I don't wear a mask unless I must while outdoors and do think my immune system isn't a weak as I may think it is.
If you go from a bacteria free enviorment to running all over then it's to be expected to pick up some nasty illness.
Chicken soup and vitamin C with Zinc is in oorder.
Get well.
I find it strange to that they are pushing so many jabs and boosters but people with them still are getting ill.
One more thing that always bugged me is in every salon I've ever been in here in Hungary and I imagine they have low santitation standards in Turkey as well , is I have never seen hide nor hare of a sanex strip when they place a cutting cape around ones neck before a haircut. Some may use a towel but not many do.
I know they must wash them often but not between every client. You are sharing the neck sweat, body oils ect. from the last person who sat in the chair.
I notice these things as I stated, I spent years behind a chair and knowing that at any moment an inspector could come in and look at the salon, could close it down for breaking health standards.
I've never noticed any quats solution on any station or even around the wash areas. I'm sure all decent salons do have a dry sanitizer and quats solution and use them but from what I have seen, they sure are hiding them.
Salons are breeding grounds for everything nasty. Some may look clean but are very dirty un it all. Same thing with resturants, great food but how old is the oil they use and how clean is the food?
A great tasting sauce can cover up many mistakes.
I may be overly freaky about salon cleaning but I owned a small salon and half my time was spent cleaning, I never see much cleaning going on here just a quick sweep and next please.

There's an article on Euronews about Bulgarians flooding into Turkey:

'Shopping like crazy': An inflated lira sees neighbours flock to Turkey

All very nice bubble but no way for Erdogan to pay for imports in hard currency.  No-one wants Turkish lira.   Perhaps time to stock up again before imports are all gone and no-one can afford to bring them in.

I have become used to this more restricted lifestyle. But I do dream of going on a few big trips later this year.
I would like to take my partner back to Mauritius but currently  the quarantine hotels and all the testing palava costs most of the trip money.

When I am in Budapest I tend to eat out less and visit bars less . (There is no where to go in my forest area.).
After the long shut down some of the places I used to go to in Budapest also  closed. Or worse served up old food and drink that seemed like it had been stored for too long. The ginger ale was flat as soon as it got out of the bottle.

It's a good thing I am fairly self sufficient as a person and next year I will grow more veg and herbs. Otherwise I tend to read more and complete more arts and crafts.
Like other people I did bulk buy a few things when the evil sickness first hit. But I quickly ran out of cupboard space .

I admit I have a cavalier attitude towards masks, shots and the entire fear mongering that the media is promoting.
There are far worst things then a mild case of C-19/flu or whatever it is called this week.
I lost a very dear old friend in Feb. of 2019, just beofe the US announced there was an outbreak so I know some people with a weak immune system may fall ill if they even catch a mild flu.
My freind was told she had the flu and died within a week after being admitted into the hospital. They put her on a ventilator and that's probably what did her in.
I have another  old school mate in Ca. who has been in the hospital for over 6 weeks.
Nothing to do at all with C-19.
I warned her to get out of there ASAP but she listened to her doctors.
They were ready to spring her from the hospital but they talked her into staying over another week just to get a shoulder MRI and have a  dentist look at her teeth.
I told her she could go home and just make an office visit for those things.
Well ,yesterday one of her nurses came down with Omi-now the entire hospital is in lockdown. No one in or out.
If she didn't have C-19 for 6 weeks she probably will get it now.
She is all shot up and boosted too.
Best advice I have is stay as far away from anything medical if you can.
At least my friend in S. Ca. has kept her humor.
She said she is in ,"Hotel California" she has checked in but she can never check out.

It seems if people get on the ventilator, that's the end for them.  Induced coma and ventilator seems to be something much more when COVID is involved. All anecdotal.  No actual evidence to back that up.

Mrs F said that Kobor's son said the Omega singer's lungs had been destroyed by COVID  and there was no coming back from that.  Apparently there's an Omega museum.   No idea where it is.

I'd forgotten about that Hotel California thing.  There's also Roach Motel - they check in  but never check out.

Looks like COVID regulations are easing in other places -  looks like norm is now about 5 days quarantine now if infected yet asymptomatic.
