New life in Berlin

Al Bubba

Hello,

I am 50 years old and moving to Berlin in a few days.

I have been working in Ireland in IT for last 16 years but do not speak German at all.

Cheers,

Aldo

Welcome to Germany.

You should start learning German as soon as possible- not only to enable a career (in case you want one), but also in order to have a meaningful social life outside of a foreigner bubble!.

Al Bubba

I don't think the foreigner bubble is limitative or sad at all, as I remember to have basked into it for good ten years in Ireland when I first landed. Although it is still true that learning German to live in Germany has blatant benefits I feel I would be more suitable for the multicultural environment Berlin has to offer nowadays.

After 16 years of Irish weather I am ready for this new challenge.

My efforts in regards to German language brought me to the "Gold league🥇" on Duolingo so far (terrific!! 😱), but I am confident I will master German in the next 25 years, should I ever live that long.
