Relocation with EU Blue Card of another EU Member State

plasmaangel

Hello everyone,

Has anyone here relocated to Germany and applied for an EU Blue Card after having spent more than 18 months on a Blue Card of another country? Could you please share your experience on nuances of this process?

Specifically, I am aware that having an EU Blue Card from another country for longer than 18 years gives you several advantages when relocating to Germany and applying for the German Blue Card:
1) You don't need to apply for a national visa beforehand in order to enter Germany and submit your German Blue Card application.
2) You can receive the settlement permit faster (21-33 months).
3) The periods spent on Blue Cards of other member states are credited towards the 5 years you need to get EU Long Term Permit.

All of this sounds brilliant, however, if I use advantage (1) and go to Germany without a visa, then I will have to stay unemployed while I wait for the decision on the German Blue Card.
Both my employer and I are interested in me starting as soon as possible and working while we're waiting for the decision.
What are our options here?

My employer suggested that I apply to the national visa D after all, additionally to the EU Blue Card process. The national visa is issued very fast and provides me a chance to work.
However, what I am not certain about is the following:
1 - Am I even allowed to apply to the EU Blue Card based on another EU Blue Card while having a national visa D active in parallel with them?
2 - Will this approach (working on national visa between two Blue Cards) do any harm to advantage (3) that I am so eager to use?

Ufff... hope I explained it rather clear.

Thank you in advance
Anton

Why do you need another Blue Card when you are already holding one? Does the old one expire soon?

plasmaangel

A Blue Card only gives you right to work and live in the country that issued it.
I am relocating to another country, so I have to receive a new one.

Oh, sorry, I didn’t know that.

Sounds contrary to the basic information I've read about the EU Blue Card. One of it's main advantages is supposed to be that once issued it is valid for all of the EU.

But one should read the details at the official Germany site for immigration link below. The very first sentence claims that it conveys residency on a EU rather than national level. But maybe there are some exceptions not mentioned? Or maybe someone is just giving you false information by mistake. To be certain, I would contact the German authorities to ask for clarification.

Sorry, what you know about the EU Blue Card is 100% wrong. Again, it is only valid for the country that issued it.
I was looking for an advice from people who actually had experience with my situation and are familiar with basics of the Blue Card.

Dear expats,
Please don't create noise under this discussion.
I am not here to explain to you how Blue Card works. I am looking for an advice from someone who has been in my situation and is familiar with Blue Card on practice like me. If you have not had experience with it similar to mine, please move on to another post.
Thank you

Plasmaangel: It is not very nice of you to call official German government websites "100% wrong", then accuse some of the regular posters and volunteers of this site, who are trying to help, of "creating noise under this discussion" and on top of all you refuse to reciprocate by contributing your knowledge to this site ("I am not here to explain to you how Blue Card works.")
I will ask for this discussion to be closed (meaning no new contributions allowed). Please in future get your advice elsewhere (but check your manners first)!

You are totally out of line. I didn't ask how it works , I told you. The authority is the Germany immigration authority BAMF. You cannot claim they are wrong since they are the ones who make the rules! If you don't want to hear the facts then go post your nonsense somewhere else.
