Moving to Germany

MelanieA

Good day everyone

My name is Melanie and I am a South African . My husband and I would love to move to Germany. I have an aunt that stays on that side and she is currently trying to assist us in finding employment. I would like some more information from you guys with regards to the country. Should we go over I would like to be close to were she (just so that I know someone) which is in Wiesbaden ,Germany. I would.just like to know the general things that the internet does not tell u , like the areas and What they really like . I also have a big family and would like to know wt monthly cost of living would be . So I have a family of 6 - myself and my hubby, 2 girls (15&10) and 2boys(14&8) I need this information as I would like to know wt offers we can accept . As chances are one of us would most probably get a job first , hopefully one that is sponsored lol.so I just want to make sure that we would be able to survive for a while on one salary until such tym that we are both employed. Thanks Melanie

For your family of 6 in Wiesbaden, the minimum needed to survive (at the official poverty line as calculated by social security levels) is EUR2900/month inkl. rent.
If you want a somewhat better life, you should aim to find a job that pays more (after tax and other compulsory deductions, which would be 20-40% of the pre-tax salary).
Such big families are rare in Germany and it will not be easy to make ends meet!

Thanks so much Beppi for your response ,.really appreciate it . I know it will be hard at first and we are trying to secure employment before we get there . Do you by any chance know if any websites that I could check out for sponsored jobs ?

Thanks again
Melanie

I don't know what you mean by sponsored jobs (volunteering?), but for regular, paid jobs I find Stepstone the best.

With sponsored jobs I mean a company that would give /assist me with a work visa .

Oh, well the system works differently here (except in a few specialized niches where the company wants to send you to Germany):
Most employers will consider only candidates with existing work permits (and, of course, EU citizens, which have to be preferentially hired by law). Since there are plenty of those, companies prefer to forgo the additional complications and uncertainty of hiring somebody who might not even be allowed to work here in the end.
So, for what you call "sponsored" jobs, you better approach companies in your country with dealings in Germany, which might send you here.
